Free art software - Characters, landscapes, and 3D models

Tripped across this while looking around at software for my daughter. Three different packages are available. One creates characters, another does landscapes, and one does 3D models. Haven't had a chance to play with them all, but seemed pretty cool for free. They say "free for a limited time." Not sure how long that is. Best I can tell, they'd like to sell you more features (ie armor, weapons, etc) after you get the free package.

My daughter used the character package to create the guy riding the dragon, then we dropped it onto a photo of our street.

Nice. If she wants to get more into the modeling, check out Blender. Truly free and Free, works well.

Thanks! Blender looks great... without having to buy add-ons.

Yup, it is almost an industry standard... also contains a non-linear editor for doing cut scenes, etc. so if video editing is desired, it can do that too

I never got Blender. Keep going back to it but can never seem to embrace it. The UI turns me off.

Heavy Cinema 4d and 3ds max user. Some Lightwave.

Have owned and used the Carrera products, much friendlier UI for casual users.

I was in the first ever 3D Studio training session by Autodesk, back in 1989, IIRC. It was DOS-based back then. Then I was a beta tester for the NT version. Assuming its fairly advanced now? I'll have to check out Blender.

Subscribed. My son has the same interests. Making PokeMon "sprites" by the dozens on MS Paint. I've had PS Elements for years and every attempt ends in frustration. Not intuitive for me. My 9 yo son will teach me soon, I suppose. As far as encouraging this interest.... Does your daughter use a tablet for entry? Seems like the next step for a budding artist.

This one is suggested for artwork and includes PhotoShop Elements ($170):
