So my better half has had some wine and is surfing ebay...

..and calls me into the room to look at this.
Apparently her Mazda3 is no longer cutting it, so she'd like this to be her new daily driver. She commutes 80 miles a day.
While I try to do the math in my head on how much that would cost, all I can think of is that my wife is ebaying under the influence. I think I'll sit back and watch this unfold.

Sounds like a good plan.

UconnTim97 06-03-2012 07:11 PM

What could go wrong?

EarlyPorsche 06-03-2012 07:18 PM

She wants that thing? I wouldn't pay $2000 for that 80's looking car. $12500 buys much newer/nicer.

mikeesik 06-03-2012 07:24 PM

I was told less than a year ago..."men and their cars"- by a female/ wife.

NOPE!!!- It has changed. -From the last generation and shorter. It is now, a WOMAN AND HER VEHICLE.
It has replaced the old saying and wanting, the -mink coat- and perhaps the large glassy cubic on her engagement finger is not enough !!

It has changed so quick. I see men driving crap and the females driving the slick expensive machines.
MARRIED MEN ARE SUCH PUSSIES. I see it all the time.

One of you must work for an oil company. Neat cars but they dont like to pass a gas staying without stopping for a drink.

kach22i 06-03-2012 07:56 PM

Turbo Diesel

onewhippedpuppy 06-03-2012 08:00 PM

Pour her another drink? If she picks it then she can't blame you for the gas prices.:D

You really have no idea, do you? That car will still be going strong when the newer car is rusting away in the junkyard. Those are some of the most over-engineered and incredibly built cars ever made. They were expensive because of the time and materials that went into them, not solely because they were a status symbol. If you have any appreciation of engineering and quality you at least have respect for that era of Mercedes.

If married men are pussies, what are bitter divorced men that complain about their ex-wives online? Based on your posts I would say douchebags.

fanaudical 06-03-2012 08:12 PM

That's a nice ride. I see them out PDX area in similar condition advertised for a bit less. If all maintenance records are available and history is known, it may be a good deal. Design is a bit dated by today's standards, but those are solid and will run a long time...

Not really complain..
Just to make some realize what can happen.

Like I said and have observed- most men are pussy whipped by marriage.
Go to a store and observe the -wife- speaking to her husband-

I do like salad and I use perhaps a partial of your terminology . I do like vinegar on my salad.
Easy. I just stated how women have changed.

Looks like she has picked out a sweet one. those have always seemed to be durable tanks with good styling. That one is clean for its age.
Still it is a huge car, does she need that big a car.
Should check out those early 90s SLs nice ones of those come up for less $s and would use less fuel and more fun to drive and easier to park.
Tell her she gets one thumb up here at least. Good Eye.

Cheers
Richard

I'm starting to think it wasn't all the ex's fault there, Sport.

Now about those Mercedes. That is a bit on the high end of the market, but they are great cars if they are not needy. If you buy one for twelve, eventually you will be selling for four...

Rick V 06-04-2012 02:48 AM

Those cars are awesome, right up to the point where the seats start to fall apart. That is my biggest complaint about those. They are tanks, you can slap run over a deer and never check up.
I didn't bother to read the entire ad but it looks like the car has had some paint work. This doesn't look factory to me.

Yes yes I know but you have to admit that is an LOL-mobile. All I can think of when I see those Benz's is Eddie Murphy Coming to America. They are just too dated looking...I would give up all the incredible build just so I could enjoy looking at my car.

Chocaholic 06-04-2012 05:20 AM

I like the look. Nothing built today rides like it either. With that mileage, assuming its all in commensurate condition, it's hard to put a "market" price on it. You'll be buying gas, that's for sure but if that's ok with you I think your wife will have the coolest ride around.

javadog 06-04-2012 06:33 AM

Nice car but it's been for sale a while, judging from when those photos were taken. He's not going to get what he's asking for it.

It has snow tires on it, so I'd want to see how much it has been driven in winter, before I made an offer on it.

It seems a strangely large car for a woman to drive.
Heavy on the gas and does she need that big a car?
Servicing will be more $$$$ than a Mazda 3. Fortunately my wife listens to me when we(I!) purchase a car for her. Yes I agree above that is an old car although miles are low. For instance if you have a Porsche, then she would probably feel justified in having something fancier. It would not be my choice. Parking etc. It may not be long before she tires of that boat! It's what she wants and if you are paying for it, then u should have major input.:):):)

This^^^^ Does she car pool? If not why does she need a gas guzzling tank to commute in?

Relax guys. She's not buying it. And if she did, it clearly wouldn't be a DD.
The whole point was the novelty that my wife was ebaying under the influence. Cheap entertainment. She does like the 126 (as well as 108) though, I think part of it is nostalgic for her since her grandfather owned a few when she was growing up.
Nice catch Javadog with the snowtires.
Coming to America? Really?

Heading to the store now to buy another case of 2 buck chuck...

Other than that, those things are like the early Volvo's.
Built like a tank.
Still too much, though
