Is that a Targa disguised to make people think it's a Cab? It doesn't actually look like that, right?

Very cool. I love the Targas, I've owned targa, cab and coupe over the years, but now will only own targas!

Some kind of similar images of late model Targa

The Targa Top: All of the detriments of a cabriolet, with only half the benefits.

Signed,

A Targa owner who hasn't yet manned up and done the cab conversion he has been dreaming about for a decade.

Have you ever owned a 911 Cab?

Anyhoo, I view the Targa as all the benefits of the cab, with almost none of the detriments!

Signed,

A Targa owner who has owned cabs but won't again.

Get a factory fiberglass hard top (I finally found one) and it makes the car as it should be. You can take the hard top off and enjoy the sun and weather anytime or put it back on and have a secure car.

I do not see a problem with it at all.

The second one in the picture is the version I've seen doing altitude testing up near my mountain home. Of course some of the panels were covered as usual.

I wonder... how many targas does Porsche even sell? I hardly ever see any on the road.

The second picture is not a factory targa. That is a German aftermarket company offering targa conversions. They have been around for a few years. I saw this stand at the Essen Technoclassica.

At some level I don't see the point of a modern Targa because the convertible power tops look so good down (unlike the old days).

It will be interesting to find out the complexity and design of the new top. The old ones are a pain in the arse to deal with.

This year I put up a fabric car shelter which used to cover my hovercraft. Now I leave the top off and just park under it, don't even worry about hail storms. I do worry about the six red squirrels now in our neighborhood though.

I've never dreamt of converting my Targa, but the new Boxster sure looks sweet.

IMHO 2nd one has too much black at the surround on the rear glass...too heavy and out of proportion...might look better on all black car but with lighter paint it would defiantly feel added on.

Is the rear window removable on that car?

IMHO.....

The 991 Targa pictured in camo is a throwback to the 70's-80's Targas

Large glass rear window (with wiper! -- see spy shot) for much better visability than a cabriolet with the top up

Solid targa structure for safety and rigidity.... as good as cabs have become, they're still more flexible, and I wouldn't want to roll one over

The only difficulty becomes removing and stowing the top. Porsche tried the power retractable glass "targa" on the 996 and it was a flop. The new cabs stow with the push of a button. This targa appears to be a two person deal, again.
