Apple people with the inside scoop - buy an iMac or wait...how long?

Hi,

Just about to pull the trigger on an iMAC. Web is full of rumours of a display and chip upgrade.

Anyone have a really good feel for the importance of delaying the purchase?

Its for my wife's B-day on the 13th so I need a really good reason if I tell her we have to wait

Wait until next week after they announce the new Macs, or at least get a good discount on an old one.

Wait until the announcement next week. I heard Apple is buying Microsoft.

...."The third new update will likely be a refresh to the iMac line. Apple last updated the iMacs in May 2011 with faster processors, a vastly-improved graphics system, Thunderbolt, and a FaceTime HD camera. However, the last complete iMac industrial redesign was launched in late 2009. While it appears that a new iMac is coming at WWDC, its feature-set is thus far unclear. We reported in May that sources said that Apple is at work on a new, much higher-resolution iMac, but it is unclear if that Retina Display iMac refresh will be coming next week or as another future iMac refresh."

If you wait for the next best thing in the computer world, you'll always be waiting.

I went through my notes and here is some of the latest "chatter"

Into AAPL WWDC next week, 9to5Mac reports that AAPL might launch the biggest simultaneous Mac refresh in its history -- which makes sense competitively in front of MSFT Windows 8. AAPL will likely release two configs of the redesigned 15-inch MacBook Pro (previous reports have said thinner/lighter with SSDs), launch new 11 & 13-inch MacBook Airs with Retina Displays (and potentially lower prices if Digitimes saying $799 entry level Air is right), and potentially refreshes on the iMac and Mac Mini lines. 9to5Mac also has the scoop on Siri saying that the voice-recognition software will be rolled out on iPad with iOS6 as well.

New MacBook laptops and iMac all-in-one PCs are expected to be thinner than previous models, and both the MacBook Pro and iMac lineups are expected to include new high-definition Retina displays.

We also anticipate several Macs could see refreshes, namely, iMac, MacBook Pro/Air and possibly Mac mini and Mac Pro, with upgrades to INTC’s latest Ivy Bridge architecture and HD retina displays.

Reuters that their new processors have been chosen for a handful of upcoming Ultrabooks, and that INTC had “missed the sweet spot” of where the market was on price. Finally, TheVerge says AAPL's upcoming MacBook Pros will abandon AMD graphics processors in favor of GPUs from NVDA -- note that AAPL's current 15 and 17-inch MacBook Pro models use AMD's Radeon HD 6750M and 6770M graphics chips, while the 13-inch model features integrated INTC graphics. Most expect AAPL will unveil its new, even thinner MacBook Pros with Retina Display-like screens at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Mac Person

Are you already a Mac user or "Mac Person" - if not, I would consider looking at other options.

I bought an IMac 2 years ago and immediately hated it (too many reasons to list). My Mac buddies told me to wait/it will quickly grow on me - I'm still waiting for it to happen.

Just something to consider - standing by for the Mac lovers' thrashing.

No new iMac today. I'm telling u boyz. Apple has tunnel vision right now it's almost all iOS stuff. Lots of photographers are angry because aperture should have been updated months ago.
