I went to a car parts/tool swap meet today that's held monthly - I've been going on and off for about two years. There was a gentleman there with an "old" pickup that I had admired previously but this time I stopped by and chatted with him. There was something about this truck that got my attention.

He explains to me this is a 52 Chevy truck mounted (lowered) on an S10 frame. I've done a little web searching and I guess this is a fairly common project. I think I just found my next auto project!

Old school 70's square nose with cummins power, 4 speed overdrive automatic, and most importantly ice cold air conditioning.

I've always liked the old Dodge Powerwagon. Close second are Diamond T and split window VW single cabs.

Something about the Mid 80's W bodies. I have owned a couple, plan on keeping this one. 318, 4spd (granny ) 4X4. No ac, aerobics package (aka manual windows) absolutely no frills. She handles 3+ feet of snow like a dry road, doesn't care how much you put in her bed, nor on her hitch. 2,000 watts of eye shaking stereo, and she always starts and goes. I have had this thing in the U.P. in feb with a car in tow, and never had to use both hands on the wheel. Her name is Peggy

My Folks Pickup shot at Riverside in the '70's. Darn truck had a 428 CJ motor in it. I did 90mph up hill with it camper and all. My younger brother blew the tranny ( harhar) racing it with out the camperat Big Willey's on Terminal Island. He claimed 11.88 with camper tires.

Mom spun it, sister spun it. Redneck all the way. Now my Nephew has it but with a 390 in it.

I've never owned a pickup truck, but, I've been around a few that I really liked.
My brother built a Cameo while in high school/junior college, had a nice little 283 w/fuel injection.
Similar to this:

Recently however, my son got a new pickup which is fast becoming a favorite of mine as it can haul people as well as cargo and yes, it's got a HEMI in it (he's young, single and can afford the gas) and yes, it hauls a$$ too.

John, ^^^^ thanks for mentioning the Falcon Ranchero ^^^^ and brings back comical days of my past. Had a '64 with the 170 c.i. six and two speed automatic. That thing could hardly hit 50 mph with a tailwind. We'd putz around the farm and backroads with it but recall one time on the highway having an 18 wheeler just feet from the rear as the little huffer was floored.

Another comical time was at the truck scales for state classification and annual required truck inspection. I forget the details but whatever tag was issued, was often pulled over by a trooper for the minimal payload / GVWR state issued tag but this Ford really couldn't meet it. As such and for the technicality, it wasn't legal for the state. The troopers knew it and I think it must have been a running joke among them.
