Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss - New Pup
I had the pleasure of owning just the coolest Black Lab for almost 14 years, Earl. We were inseparable, spending our days together on the farm. When he died in my arms I was devastated.
That was three years ago. All wounds heal and I decided to seek another dog. I really didn't want a black lab, but we don't always get a say. And I rescue a lot of dogs so this one was for me. Meet Rika, who will be trained as a hunting dog the right way: ![]() ![]() Asleep on my foot. ![]() His demeanor, comportment and confirmation are just terrific.

Great news! Congratulations.
I had the great pleasure of spending the day in Malibu yesterday in a house full of dogs and cats. 2 Goldens, a long-haired Shepard, a Basset Hound and a mutt. I was so happy, just nice dogs everywhere. Puppies and dogs are truly the best and have a positive effect on one's brain chemistry, IMO. |

Wow, great looking dog. Living without a dog isn't quite the same.

Nice. I have a black lab rescue as well. Truman is a joy. Romping with the kids in the backyard as I write.
Congrats! Larry |

I apologize for not being more clear: Rika is not a rescue. I wanted a purpose built dog to train, so I did a lot of leg and home work and found him. It was a very interesting journey. The last four dogs we kept were rescues and numerous others we've had arrive and then placed.
I am using Richard Wolters series of books to train Rika. If he barks in haiku, smartly, I'll let you guys know ![]()

We are going to find out.
I can tell you, he is so calm and composed. We had him on the water this afternoon and there was no vice. He is at twelve weeks...we are in the introduce, kindness phase. I will say that I'll love this dog.
