Rear crank seal weeping...
So after my adventure on my front Carrera oil cooler....I noticed that I get a few drops after I get home from a drive.....
I checked behind the lower pulley and found the source of the leak. I haven't done a seal in that area in over 20 years. This is a 3.6 964 engine. Is the seal replacement a big deal? |
You must have forgotten that there is actually a 911 Tech section here somewhere. ;)

This is OT, we're not 'sposed to stay on topic:
We did a lower end inspection yesterday on a compressor, found damage on two rod journals. It took 4 guys most of the day and a 35 ton crane to get the crank out and loaded on a truck. We're having it NDE checked for cracks this morning, then dedicated trucking to Corpus Christie by Tuesday. We'll get it back in 2 1/2 weeks (paying extra for the rush) and it'll cost bout $30k. total overhaul of the machine will cost upwards of $135k. There used to be two local companies that could hard-chrome and grind that crank for half that money and in 5 days, but the enviro-nazis ran them out of bidness. So now I gotta sent it half-way round the world to tejas for submersion arc welding and grinding. Sorry if you hafta pay a little extra fer gas next week ;) j/k |
