Walking/running sans iPod
I've been kicking it old school lately and I have to say it's been liberating. I forgot how much I enjoy silence. I can think, make plans, meditate and just be alone with my thoughts. It's truly been rewarding. Anyone else hang up their iPod?

Once again, those of us on blades are left out. :) I never have used one. I prefer to be able to hear my surroundings.

I used my Ipod only a few times since I owned it. That was inside house. When I am on my bike, I do not listen to anything. No computer on the handle bar, no heart rate monitor, nothing. I just pay attention to the road and pot holes.

I have never plugged an iPod into my ears while running/walking. I prefer the sound of the city around me. But then, I'm a dinosaur.

I use my old retired iPhone original as a music source for when I am outside mowing or edging the yard. It is nice to mufflle the sound of the engine, and hear something besides singing to myself & engine noise.

As it's 110 degrees here during the day now, I've been running on the treadmill. Having the TV on is a great distraction. I find I can run much further if my brain is occupied on something besides my lungs and legs. |
i love telling some group of joggers "on your left", only to be ignored because i was drowned out by music.
when i run, i dont use music. the pounding of my feet, the rush of blood in my ears, my labored breathing, heart gnashing..and my own cussing is enough noise for me. |

I do use it when hiking, but not so loud that I cannot hear the birds. I don't hike as often though. I did a couple great rides yesterday and today and loved the peace and quiet in the coastal mountains. Great scenery. |
