Wood to stone, final product

I finally got the OK to polish it today. I am not doing anything else to it. One way or the other, it is done.

And one done by another guy in the class, it took him a little longer, his first stone work, but he has been an artist all his life. He is 82, it's his grave stone, he is doing the Elephant as a place to sit for the people that come to see him after.

I love your piece. Excellent work.

The concept of making ones own headstone is awesome.

Certainly one way to share a legacy with others before you are gone and creates a much more intimate bond.

Good stuff, thanks for sharing.

I am blown away! Great work! (both of you) Now, have you a spot picked out for it in your yard or whats the follow up on this story? I would love to see it in its final resting spot! (NOT THE TOMBSTONE!!! I wish that guy has years and years before we need to see that!)

That was a clear liquid called "Akemi" that turned it so dark, that and 2000 grit wet and dry to begin with. Then buffing with an old T shirt.

and again, thank you all for the compliments. I am working on a 140 lb piece of Italian Marble now. To me the Gecko was abstract but I am now trying a more abstract woman with angle wings. We will see.
