need advice on wall mounted AC/heat
Our house has a sunroom that was added on by the previous owner and in that room is a wall mounted Amana AC/heat unit similar to what you see in a motel. Recently it has not cooled so good and I found it was iced up so I called a service dude. He came out today and said there are no service ports to even hook his gauges to so basically replace it. So did a little bit of internet searching and a similar replacement unit is 1500.00 +. I noticed that conventional window units some of them now also have heat. So I'm looking for a AC/heat unit around 11,000 btu's what would you recommend ? It looks like a conventional window unit with heat in this size can be had for 700.00-800.00 with a SEER of about 11.5. The Amana that is there now is 12,000 btu's. And it's 220v and I plan to stay with 220. Any advice gentleman ?

Mini split. I put a 24,000 btu 19 seer heat pump Mitsubishi unit in my 900 sqft garage and it works great of course you could go half that size which would be more efficient at about 26 seer. $2200 with installation hardware. DIY installation is easy if you can get a hold of some gauges since it comes precharged. Plenty cool in Houston summers and warm in Houston winters and it's almost silent.

We install lots of the Mitsubishi Split/Ductless (aka Mr Slim)units at work for places where we need a bit of cooling and/or heating. They come with wireless remotes so you don't even need to wire a thermostat.
As David noted above, easy install, runs silently, seems to last forever. (David where in Clear Lake are you? We used to live on Diana Lane out there)

I rep Fujitsu which competes with Mitsubishi units. Fujitsu and Mitsu are the best out there and you will be shocked how much heat you get out of them. You might find the regular Fujitsu unit will do better with heat where a Mitsu will have a commercial model or a more expensive hyper heat model. The standard Fujitsu will cover it.
Fujitsu General America 12RLXFW unit will work.
