Does this smell like fish ?
I am, unfortunately needing to sell my SC due to medical problems which see me not being able to drive it much anymore.
I got no offers here on Pelican so I placed an ad in auto trader and got this reply today and it's seems well written enough but also strange enough to appear to me as a scam. Your opinions and suggestions...:: Thank you for getting back to me,can you assure me that i will not be disappointed if i buy this Vehicle as a Birthday gift for my Dad? as I'm ready to pay your asking price but not cash in person because I'm an Oceanographer and i am presently on a contract which will end in couple of months, the contract is strictly no call due to the lack of reception on the sea area, but I'm able to access my mail through my laptop and my only quickest payment option is PayPal,its safe fast and secure and i will be responsible for the pay pal transaction charges so you can get your expected amount. If you don't have an account with paypal, its pretty easy to open one,Just log on to www.paypal.com and sign up.I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? as my Dad's birthday is fast approaching,am sure he will love this vehicle, his a mechanic and a handy man,so if there is anything that need to be fixed in it just let me know he will handle it. I have a mover that will come for the pick up once payment clears in your account and he will handle the title for me.I look forward to hear from you with the information below. Your PayPal e-Mail Address : Full name: Firm Price: Zip code for pickup: Thanks. Maria. |
Seriously?

Scam, be careful.
|
Yes fish...shrimp to be exact...as in SCAMpi :)
|
yes, it's a scam, but I really feel for Maria's dad, he would have loved your vehicle. poor guy.
|
Don't need to finish the 1st sentence to know that's a scam.
|
I got one very similar to that for a NASCAR truck I have listed for 85 grand.
I was very careful but did follow up. it was a scam... tread lightly my friend |
Scam. I got that one almost word for word for a vehicle I put up for sale a few weeks ago.
Another same idea scam was the one from the remote oil drilling facility, and then there's the people on the nuclear powered submarine, or ship, etc. angela |
Write 'er back, tell her that whomever shows up at your door first with the agreed upon price can drive home in a nice SC.
Or don't write "Maria" back. The deal will end the same. You won't be out "x" amount of dollars. This is not nor has it ever been legitimate. "Maria" should be ashamed of herself. |
If I get one of those one day I want to ask them to overnight a check just so I make the scamming business more expensive for them.

To avoid all scams just say "Payment by bank wire transfer only" as once the money is in your account it is yours with no reverses. This is the only way I except payment for any large sales I make, as it weeds out the scammers. I also do this for many of my overseas customers who buy expensive parts from me.

Sniff...hmmmmm....some where between 10 day old tuna and haddock

Cash at your bank in person is the last way I did it. Laid the pink on the counter next to the cash while they counted and verified it. I'm sure all the security cameras were rolling.
I'll never do it any other way. |

scammer
I guess when a person(s) goes to sea, there is absolutely no communication. Does our Navy & Coast Guard have this problem?
