Anyone use Yammer or something similar?
Looking into Yammer for business use. Anyone here using it? Any experience?
Also looking at Socialcast. Let me know. Thanks! |
I have Yammer here at work...pretty boring actually and don't pay much attention to it. It is almost identical to Facebook, only in a private network setting

Do you have any experience with the management of the service? |

The company I work for in Australia uses Yammer extensively as a information and idea sharing tool - generates discussions, seeks ideas on solutions etc. It was started as a tool for the IT community at the company but has now grown beyond that into the business itself, to the extend that most of the senior management contribute as well as view. We are talking Bank and Insurance company with about 18,000 staff. It has an easy to use interface, and you can interface via iPhone etc as well. I work in IT procurement so I can probably get you in contact with the person who is responsible for it's management. We have quite a large IT workforce with a sizable number<30yrs - as you can imagine, they take to these applications like ducks to water. Because it's an open forum (albeit in a private environment of peers) the level of abuse or time wasting is very small. Another large user I know of in Australia - NSW (state) Department of Education - my daughter is a teacher. Tim |
Thanks Mothy. I am looking at a much smaller application, 30-40 people, but very knowledge and idea intensive.
I am trying to figure out if this will be helpful or wasteful. In a small shop, I am not sure we will have the traffic that we need to make it valuable. |
Microsoft just bought Yammer today.

Exactly why I am asking..... |
I don't manage it or know who does. There are 2300 people at my company and for the most part, its just people posting links to articles. Not much in the way of ideas though they just did get it going a couple months ago.

I never heard of Yammer until I read that Microsoft bought them today...

We use it, the thing i really like about it is the ability to share files externally with clients (external networks). I'm not big on social networks but as a communications medium it's ok.
