Yeah? How many of those solar roof panels were sacrificed to the 'Land Hurricane' ?

I mean, I've done quite a bit of engineering for wind loading ... big panels need big hardware to survive 90mph winds. At least around here, I see less than commercial grade installation of solar panels.

Well we could make silly arguments about not getting your petrol when the pumps need electricity.

Stations often have back-up generators. ..which run on gas. ;)

Most people have seen/walked by that display area in most large automotive swap meets and county/state fairs, the area that features many variants of steam-powered engines and contraptions with enthusiastic, white-haired disciples eager to explain and educate. Many passers-by, in fact most at this juncture of history, look at them (both men and machines) with bemusement. "Wow, these things used to power boats, trains and vehicles?"

In about 30-40 years, maybe sooner, there'll be an equivalent display space manned by nostalgic and elderly fans of internal combustion engines, and a new crop of the populace and their wide-eyed kids will walk/glide by and express mild amusement, maybe reminisce, at the examples of "old" and "inefficient" fuels and technology of years past. IOW, it's relative.

However, the exhaust note from an unmuffled IC engine may not be easily duplicated by future powerplants. :)

and even later shows will have cars and boats and engines that are once again powered by steam.

Yeah, apparently the sun is offline on the east coast as well

Why salesmen are more popular than engineers.

Still not noticing hand movement, but those eyes!

The last vid. ... is she given a script, or is she trying to live up to the (fake) blond dew?

I mean she (or the script writer) is comparing a technology Push product (the electric car) with technology Pull products of the past. And then she (or the script writer) says that the nay sayers saying nay signals that EV's will be successful because there have been nay sayers for the successful inventions in the past. ...yeah? . .. but Yugo, DeLorean, Enron and New Coke had no nay-sayers? (so they failed)

Seriously, that's some mental gymnastics going on only to produce contorted logic. ...which brings us back to the above cartoon and "Comforting Lies."

You also aren't suggesting that they use a stack of washers to hold in their pack on their actual production model, right? I am not sure why you are such a naysayer on this car, but the negative comments on the tesla launch are getting pretty long in the tooth to read ...

Personally, i am very happy to see this coming out of the us and california. Would you rather have the japanese or the germans build it? Read up on musk - it is a good example how the us still attracts the best entrepreneurs and thinkers worldwide. We get there by being open minded, diverse, tolerant and by supporting new ideas! I really would have expected more excitement from this board ...

Most of the power outages I've experienced over the past couple of decades lasted in between 20 minutes to several hours, and usually happened end of summer when tems climb north of 100 and all ACs run @ full blast. If I owned a Model S, chances are I'd charge it at night when the energy cost is less, and when/if power outage happens I'd plug it back in and used the battery to run my home - essentially using the car as an energy storage. I might even invite my neighbors to enjoy my AC cooled living room.

My flat roof would also be ideal for about 81 solar panels that would average the 85KWh needed to fully charge a model S (free of charge) - not to mention - my 23mile daily commute would only require charging once/ twice a week. the extra free energy generated by the could be stored in a built in energy storing device, and the remainder pumped back into the grid at peak hours when the electric company will pay the premium.....just saying

enough saying - DO IT!

No doubt that with your talent you can afford it, so do it already. 50k out the door... 5k to get you on the wait list ...which is totally refundable.

Redbeard can set you up with those 81 panel. -he knows what he's doing and you've some great subsidies for them. ..So what's the hold up? ..nothing but up-side.
