Houston guys: Where can I find Morels?
 

Need some help you local yokels. Have a dinner party to attend and wanted to make a dish with Morels.

Central Market? Epicurean Market? Whole foods?

In Western Washington, we find them in the woods. Particularly after a rain. Chantrels too.

And then, down in Oregon, they have those little Liberty Cap things.:D

If you need them today you might have a problem getting them on short notice. Get a hold of your local produce company, you may just get lucky. Also their price will be much better than any supermarket. Your other option is either Gelson's, Bristol Farms (local California stores, not sure if you have them in your area). Look for any high end supermarket, most likely will carry them in dry form, all you need to do is reconstitute them in water and viola there you have them. Your best bet is get ahold of one of your local gourmet restaurants and ask them for name and number of their produce company.

My local mainstream supermarket has a pretty good selection of dried shrooms... You mentioned Whole foods.... they are almost guaranteed to have them...

I have a good enough relationship with a Thai restaurant near my place, that if I need some wierd Thai ingredient I can walk over, and they will always oblige me with some..

If you frequent a restaurant where morels are part of a dish on the menu, chances are you could walk away with a handful....

We have a huge area around my Vermont house where Chanterelle shrooms are abundant...

Check Whole Foods

Central Market should have them. Whole foods on Waugh as well

Dried try viet Hoa or maybe H Mart. Fresh u might find at central Market. Not sure they are in season.

It's way too late in the season for fresh ones. Morels come out in the early spring when it's wet and cold out. They have a very narrow window.
