Decent Intro . Dirt bike for Son?
Hello.
I'm curious about your experiences getting your Son his 1st. Dirt bike. My Boy is 150 pounds and is 12 years old. He wishes to have a dirt bike. This would be his first. I don't wish to get him a Rocket-no need! 4 stroke and Torque would be the answer. I'd like to start off with used and who knows, after that, if it works for him.... thanx.

Look for whatever Honda or Yamaha you can find in the 60-80cc range.... He might be able to handle up to 125, but learning he will be way more comfortable and the 80s move pretty good. Most of the newer bikes in that range hold their value pretty well. Plan on upgrading in a few years.

Some of the little 80s will scare a full grown man....
![]() Being that short will limit you as well. I know some say OT doesn't matter if you can touch, but for me, it's a hell of a lot easier to get comfortable on a bike if you can flat foot when standing. |

Any of the small "play" bikes would be fine. Something like a yamaha TTR 125 or kawi KLX 140 or Honda CRF150 , should fit the bill. Plenty out there on the used market and can be huge fun for grown-ups too. ( you can throw on some super moto wheels for go cart track fun too)

I am being very gentle here and understanding...o.k. I will put it in point form because I hate typing. -This boy is treated like **** by his mother and relatives. -He loves me , so he suffers by them! Essentially, he is non-existent to what he thinks and wants and is hated by them! I got Simon an i phone / tablet / computer; everything has been taken away!! The last sebastion of anything is his "BIKE" and that was taken away as well! I call my x's extended family a cult and thats what they are..no one enters and no-one related can leave. Also communication is taken away from the outside world.......................and THEY KNOW IT !!!! BEWARWE !!! -We were at the POLICE STATION -2 WEEKS AGO. WHY ? -He is, according to the Police 2 weeks ago when I was with him waiting for help..."ASSAULTED " by his mother.....again and again this happens. -You try to get help for your Son that has run-away and ask for help from the Police. Forget it !!!! -He, my Son, has/had scratches, welts bruises and a bit of blood flowing off my Sons neck due to his mother 'assaulting him". -It's futile to fight against a woman/mother in todays society. Please believe me that I have had so much experience in this. Today, in the 21st Century, you have to be mad/ultra nieve to get married today. You here after talking to fellas and their response is ........pre-nup. A WOMAN CAN DO -NO WRONG IN TODAYS WORLD.

That is horrible. I hope things get better for the young fellow soon. Blasting around on a dirt bike may not solve the worlds problems but it can be a fun escape from lots of bad things.

What's going to keep her from taking the dirt bike? Also, why in the hell did you let the bike go to her house, after the Xbox incident?
As far as your little comment on my size? Don't underestimate me. I've got a good amount of power, a long reach, and I'm nimble as hell. It's not all about bulk there chunky. ![]() |

About the bike.. Simon uses this bike like a Muslim and a cab that must provide. Simon and I have such a short time together and he needs to move ..he is almost one with a bike. I cannot keep anything away from him that he wants to take back. Sometimes, it works for him and sometimes it doesn't! The dirt bike will stay with me. My Bud has a huge Canola farm and Simon can ride it till he runs out of gas and then......whines for some more ! hahha. I swear-He is an awesome boy-better than I in so many ways.
