Los Angeles Moving Company Recommendation?
I am moving a family household within LA to reduce commute times. Anyone have a recommendation fora good moving company? Service, reliability and care are more important than price.
TIA George |

I haven't moved in 10 years and am not looking forward to the next time! My only advice is to not believe them if your gut tells you their truck isn't big enough, and they insist that it is...

Don't allow them to ship anything you don't want stolen. If you do then make sure they write up and sign a LEGIBLE, item by item list of goods shipped.
I left the military in '97 and the shippers stole my garden hose reel and my floor jack. It took intervention from my local member of congress to get the items back. The grease-ball who stole the floor jack had to deliver it to me personally and he could not look me in the eye. The shipping company owner called me and explained that we had to accept a certain amount of theft from "the guys" or the work won't get done in a timely fashion. I responded with "bull$hit" and he had nothing to add. |

I have moved a few times in my adult life and consider myself somewhat of a pro. It helps keep clutter down, that's for sure. It is not true that they are all crooks. A good company does inventory at departure as well as arrival (with you present and counter-signing). A good company creates little to no damage and if they do, they cover it with their insurance or have repair specialists come by and fix the damage for you. Good companies will crate your mirrors and other items that are fragile. Rest assured that my tool box is locked upon departure. ![]() Please keep the references coming if you can help! George |

Their standard damage insurance is based on weight, and its something low like $0.35/pound. $5,000 crystal vase smashed? Ok, here is $1.40.

Glad it all worked out. In CA, moving is still a regulated industry. So you can go with a name brand top company and expect to pay the same as someone who pretends to be cut rate. The difference is the trucks and ancillary equipment, not to mention personnel.
I don't think a lot of people understand this. |
