Carfax question
No, this isn'at a request for a Carfax report - I know better, and I don't want to get Wayne in trouble.
What I want to know is whether anyone has had luck with Carfax reports (or any other service) in finding VIN information for cars built before 1980 and that may have not been registered for quire some time. It appears that Carfax and other services have problems with US cars with the old 13 digit VINs. You see, the story about the found Austin Healey after 40 years got me wondering if anyone has tried to register my old '67 Camaro after some years of "cooling off". |
You need 17 digits for Carfax to work. That didn't standardize until about 1981.
So CARFAX won't help you with the vintage Camaro. You might try assorted registries and collector groups though, some of them have surprisingly extensive records. angela |
Autocheck is slightly better in my opinion. It isn't going to help you much for older vehicles--but neither would Carfax. Autocheck is run by Experian.
