Groesbeck Hurricane 07-03-2012 06:38 AM

Sad news!!!! Great actor!!!!

God's Speed!

gshase 07-03-2012 06:43 AM

He was so COOL...........Sad day

craigster59 07-03-2012 06:57 AM

He was an all around actor, musician and stand up comedian. No Time For Sargents and A Face In The Crowd are 2 of my favorite movies. And I used to crack up, no matter how many times I'd heard it, "What It Was, Was Football".

I'll have to have some Ritz crackers and a 'big orange drank" tonight in his honor. RIP Andy.

R.I.P Andy.

my Lady grew up in 'Mayberry'..Mt Airy really..
just there a few weeks ago for HS graduation & wedding..
the dinner & other places really exist..
for a few bucks you get arrested & a ride in the 'cruiser'..

Andy had a house behind her brothers place..
had that small town feel for years..
keys left in the car..
doors not locked..
sadly..
it's not the same anymore..
it's full of tourist & other crap..

Rika

Seems like we lose a little bit of "Mayberry" everyday.....now we've lost the Sheriff.

Halm 07-03-2012 08:10 AM

Earl Hagen, who passed away earlier this week. Hagen composed original music for more than 3,000 episodes, pilots and TV movies, including the theme songs for “The Andy Griffith Show,” “I Spy,” “The Mod Squad” “That Girl,” “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.” The Andy Griffith song also had lyrics called “The Fishing Hole,” written by actor Everett Sloane (who played Mr. Bernstein in Citizen Kane).

Groesbeck Hurricane 07-03-2012 08:27 AM

Because we need the lyrics:

Well, now, take down your fishin' pole and meet me at The Fishin' Hole,
We may not get a bite all day, but don't you rush away.

What a great place to rest your bones and mighty fine for skippin' stones,
You'll feel fresh as a lemonade, a-settin' in the shade.

Whether it's hot, whether it's cool, oh what a spot for whistlin' like a fool.

What a fine day to take a stroll and wander by The Fishin' Hole,
I can't think of a better way to pass the time o' day.

We'll have no need to call the roll when we get to The Fishin' Hole,
There'll be you, me, and Old Dog Trey, to doodle time away.

If we don't hook a perch or bass, we'll cool our toes in dewy grass,
Or else pull up a weed to chaw, and maybe set and jaw.

Hangin' around, takin' our ease, watchin' that hound a-scratchin' at his fleas.

Come on, take down your fishin' pole and meet me at The Fishin' Hole,
I can't think of a better way to pass the time o' day.

Ron's dad was on the show too....

Sad. Strangely, we drove down to and were in Manteo yesterday (first time in over a decade; we prefer to avoid the traffic involved in getting there). I mentioned to my wife that "Matlock lives here." I didn't realize I was less than 24 hours from having to speak in the past tense. :(

herr_oberst 07-03-2012 09:31 AM

I've got an record album somewhere in the stack called "Andy Griffith shouts the Blues"

I'll have to pull it out and give it a listen in his honor (with a stack of Ritz Crackers - mmm MMM).

A real renaissance entertainer. Good actor, good singer, good guy.

RIP.
