But the biggest bang for the buck is an older Z06

Isn't it in such rough shape you wouldn't want to run anything but a SCORE race truck there?

mb911 07-07-2012 06:42 AM

No actually the proving grounds was purchased years ago by a company that tests new cars and such and does crash test including endurance testing on the track

intakexhaust 07-07-2012 09:28 AM

Is that where the Prius went up in smoke? (Crash tested then sat in a parking lot for a few weeks, shorted batteries or something??)

I have no idea the guys I know that work at MGA are pretty top secret there. They do allot of governement testing as well I know that

Ok I have listed here on pelican, Rennlist, Autotrader, and craigslist. What about some of those german sites where they buy US cars and bring them back to the homeland? I have no idea where to search to list it there. any thoughts?

Not aware on special sites for this. Usually the Teutons find them over here and arrange transfer themselves. Note that specifically for Germany, the earlier cars are more popular as you can get an H registration (collectors - 30 years and older) for them which makes it much more attractive (inexpeinsive). A 92 would be a regular import and not as straightforward. The coupes are the least sought after over there too. A Targa or Cab would be better to sell.

I think you have you bases covered. Keep us posted!

That Trans Am Cab is still listed in LA, so hurry! ;)

I don't think that they go for the run-of-the-mill, modern cars in Germany. They have them there and they're cheap enough. You're looking at a local sale with that.

Don't worry, the Germans are patrolling U.S. ads. My Carrera went to Germany. The buyer made it clear that he needed a low price to make it work. To him, a low price for a car that needed major engine work was just the ticket. They have to do a lot to make the TUV regulations, so a lot of work is figured into the deal as well as shipping.

You have to be off market by 5 or so grand to appeal to the Germans.

mb911 07-08-2012 02:43 PM

ah well thats not gonna happen here I would be back to parting it out before that would happen.

I had someone come look at it today for the second time to show his wife so we will see.

rfuerst911sc 07-08-2012 04:02 PM

Ben are you staying in the Porsche exhaust game ? I have two of your mufflers and would be sad to know they will no longer be made.

Hardly in fact it has grown quite well and continues to grow I just have taken on a different role much like the porsche family did to porsche AG.

Now the question do you think that ding below the headlight effects the sale that much? I am thinking I may fix that in the morning.

aigel 07-08-2012 09:16 PM

I am sure you'll get the old

I would be okay with that price, but I can't pay that much for the car, my wife doesn't think it is worth that much
. ;)

But seriously, just like in selling real estate, if a buyer comes by for a second visit, you know they bit.

Good Luck!

Go to the dark side, it's fun! I've owned quite a few p-cars over the years with a multitude of other marques in between; Turbo Supra, All-Trac Celica, Lancia Zagato, 240 & Fairlady, 2002, countless Volvos & VWs. It's all good, point is to have fun and enjoy what you have. When it's time to sell, don't look back and have no regrets.
Just keep in mind though that the work & money you put into one Porsche will be considerably less than what you will spend on the others over the long haul. I think the Supra was probably the least expensive of any car I ever owned, but the All-Track made up for it in spades, but both sure put a smile on my face every time I drove them. That said though when it's time to sell it's time to sell. To me half the fun is searching for the next one.
Also two other sites to list on you might consider (BOTH FREE) Samba and believe it or not I had more contacts from Excellence Mag's site than I did from any other site listed including CL & Pelican.
Good look!

mb911 07-09-2012 10:01 AM

I might do the excellence mag thing I forgot all about that. thanks

I wish I could sell my 71 hotrod...

mb911 07-10-2012 05:16 AM

I have seen an upswing in questions so fingers crossed

mb911 07-13-2012 02:56 PM

Well had a bunch of tire kickers. I may hold off as I may get motivated to fix all the issues and ask more in spring. not sure

aigel 07-13-2012 09:21 PM

Sounds like you are asking too much if you have looky Lous and no offers. Did anyone throw out a number? If you are serious about selling, cut the cord and do it.

Here, 4k for an easy project, especially if you don't have emissions in your neck of the woods:
2000 TRANS AM WS6!!!!

I still think fixing all the issues will make it a much easier sell, so you are definitely on the right track there.

mb911 07-14-2012 06:45 AM

I have had several call and want records faxed to them but no takers. 2 guys wanted a car to turn into track cars and onw guy wanted one that was perfect with no paintwork . the other guy looked at it twice and is waiting until after this weekends race at road america he wanted to possibly look at older porsches before making a decision .. I am not sure I am over priced but in this area people are already thinking about fall/winter and I think people want a smoking deal as we near the end of the driving season. I have been down this road as well.

I am going to buy a stock airfilter assembly as that worry some(It came with out the original one) and fix the ding and the air condition for sure. this should help value considerably. I may also pull the engine and fix the small leaks . this is all depended on if I hang onto it for the winter. then in spring sell it and possibly get 3-4K more for it.

aigel 07-14-2012 10:03 AM

Sure sounds like you are going to be in the porsche game at least 6 months longer. I'd fix it up - maybe you'll like it much better again afterwards and keep it. You also want to detail it when the body is done - we are talking used car lot level of detailing, including the engine compartment, shampooed carpets etc.

Keep us posted! I would be happy to look at any WS6 heaps down here - they apparently are pretty inexpensive in my neck of the woods. Let me know! ;)

G

mb911 07-14-2012 05:26 PM

just lowered to the lowest price I would consider and I have found a stock air box and will include that as that worried some folks.

Driving season is near the end in mid July?

Send me a ticket and I'll drive the thing out to CA. I'll stop and show it to anyone along the route within a reasonable distance.

No end of driving season here!

And I've got an extra garage now that the Carrera is gone.
Get some paint and I'll fix and paint the repair. Can't get good paint here.

mb911 07-14-2012 07:25 PM

Milt,

Funny thing is the paint work is right up my alley been doing that stuff for years painted half a dozen cars myself and done another dozen or so body and prep.

as to driving season no its not over but spring fever is waay over we started spring so early in the midwest this year that people are already preparing for fall (leaves are actually falling already). People are also hoarding hey which is a problem for me as I need hay for our alpacas. and winter clothing is starting to go into the stores. We are also in such a drought that boating on most lakes is a challange to say the least and some are coming out of lakes so they dont get stuck on boat lifts (boats are cheap right now). so in reality driving season is until december but motivated buyers are rare in this unusaul season.

keep in mind my family has been in the used car business for 60 years so they track this stuff pretty close.. Milt I would love for you to take it to california but not sure it would net more money out there or not?

mb911 07-19-2012 03:09 PM

well did the first good burnout with the fox body mustang 5.0 the other day and that was satisfying and have driven the 964 allot this week. probably gonna keep both and when I want to beat a car good then the fox comes out the 964 is by far a much higher quality car. Gonna keep it unless someone comes by for the right price and catches me in the right mood

mb911 08-06-2012 06:18 PM

Car sold today so now on to the next car not sure what yet but maybe a late 60's camaro for a while found a rs/ss that is interesting

Zeke 08-06-2012 06:47 PM

Looked like a nice car, Ben. I hope you didn't drop your shorts too far. You seemed rather anxious. Anyway, congrats on the sale.

aigel 08-06-2012 07:05 PM

Ouch - just as I thought we had talked you out of it!

A late 60s Camaro can't be cheap to buy! What's with the WS6 TransAm? ;)

G

mb911 08-06-2012 07:23 PM

I sold the car for 19k so pretty happy with that.

a solid project camaro is 7-10 k

still thinking on the ws6 want to drive one locally before I decide

aigel 08-06-2012 07:35 PM

Simple - buy the 9k project camaro and drop manual WS6 drivetrain into it. Done! ;)

19k for your car is a good price - you definitely did well with that and will have enough there to get back in the game.

If you were close enough, I'd let you drive mine, I've been using it as a daily, fun to fire up..

I'm one step closer to Porscheless, the Turbo "S" is going to S. FL.:D

Tell me about your Camaro? I am interested in feedback

Drdogface 08-07-2012 07:17 AM

I'm kind of in the same game...out of the Porsche game. It's just too low for me now with my recent back issues. I'm getting a taste for a 50's American car...old 56 Ford or Chevy. Love to have a T-bird but they are major bux....

Dean, I loved lookin' at all the wagon pics...

I don't jest. I used to have a 71 Vette Roadster with a non-original engine and seriously thought about putting a newer model LS type drivetrain ... then I ran across the 993 ... going the other direction, I suppose. No regrets!

Yea, it is a big heavy pig, but fun, lots of torque. But, typical of American cars, lots of plastic, heavy doors, ect.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1344362042.jpg
