Nope, sorry, not gonna do it...

Buy meat from the back of pickup truck.

Have a nice day.

Wouldn't be prudent, at this juncture...

I used to know this loser guy that just never could get it right. He did have a "personality" though. He got into that frozen steak thing back when it was novel; about the 70's. Made a shc!t load of money for awhile.

I think he knew where some of the good meat was and could actually deliver a fairly good steak to those he knew. As for the rest...

Eric 951 07-06-2012 09:51 AM

Then how about these speakers from the back of my van--brand new in the box;)

widebody911 07-06-2012 09:53 AM

I can just imagine being at the ER, doubled over in pain, barfing my guys out, telling the doctor "So, this guy was selling meat out of the back of his pickup, and it seemed like a good deal..."

It's not that the meat is bad/tainted/spolied, it's that it's bad/sucks/tough/bottom shelf crap....

Yeah what HE said!

Bought so called steaks from the back of a truck. They were frozen when I bought them so I really couldn't see how gray and sad the meat looked. When I thawed them out, the color was so clearly not right... After cooking, no matter how rare, they were as tough as shoe leather with nasty bits of gristle and membrane throughout.

I fed them to the dogs. One of the dogs refused to eat them. I mean how damn bad can the steak be when the creature that eats it's own poo won't touch it?

This is precisely what went through my head when I read the title. Even the vocal inflection and all. But it was prob Dana Carvey's voice I heard instead of the original.

As far as truck meat? Agree. I'll pass.
As far as van speakers? Actually was with a guy that bought a set in San Diego in '92 for $50. Went into his garage and sounded fine for years. I told myself they weren't stolen.

A couple of years I came out of the grocery store to find I'm blocked in by a white van. The guy wants to sell me speakers. Told him I had no interest but he refuses to move his truck. I thought we were going to come to blows over some POS speakers. Luckily a local police car rolls through the lot and van driver makes a hasty retreat. Seems these guys are everywhere.

Had one of those truck meat guys swing by the house, park in my pull off in front of my house and was a total nut job. I politely told him I was not interested and to have a nice day, he got huffy and started to walk to the neighbors house, leaving his truck on my property. When I told him to move the truck he got down right s8itty with me. He moved it when he saw my old Dodge heading over to do the job.
I wonder if he is still in biz?

Timely thread, I am coming back from a test drive ( in a 911 to boot) today , and there is this guy who lives in the local ghetto trailer park, coming at me in the opposite direction , in his rusted out purple caravan. He is waving me down. Says he has great deals on lobster, steak, and crab legs. I was holding up traffic, so I had a good excuse to boogie, but, no not me, not gonna do it either.
Back in our young days, I had a good friend who lived in an apartment building. His roomate was a bit of a wild card, and once a week , he would whip up a killer dinner for us. Always filet, lobster, seafood etc. We made the mistake of asking him what the special occasion was every Thursday. He said " no special occasion, I just steal it out of the neighbors Omaha Steak delivery every week". Apparently , they would just leave this styrofoam cooler full of dry ice, steaks, and seafood in front of the door of the residents of the building .

"I was just down the street making a delivery to your neighbor, and he said I should talk to you about the extra meat I have in the truck". When we were younger and dumber we almost fell for this. We actually agreed to him coming back later in the day to talk to us about setting up a subscription, taking delivery of their freezer, etc. Good sense finally prevailed and we told him we were no longer interested.

I take it a step further, no food from vending trucks.

Those taco trucks scare me.

Sheesh .. Sounds like the same guy that made the rounds in my neighborhood. Yeah, I learned my lesson the hard way. Oh wait .. then there was a guy resurfacing driveways ..

Unless you live in Salmon country.

The Natives sell a very nice fish out of a cooler. Typically, it is the guy who pulled it from the river a few hours prior. Kind of feel good about it. Giving cash to cash poor folks for quality product. We all win. Nice people as well. More than generous in my experience.

I hate these guys. Florida is full of them. Have actually had to run them out of yard. Don't seem to want to take no for an answer.

TimT 07-06-2012 06:55 PM

I go down to the docks... can get all sorts of seafood fresh of the boat...

You know the same seafood they didn't bag and tag.. It was caught at the same time as the fish/clams/lobsters/scallops in the tagged bag

I buy it fresh and at a discount..

My buddy Jimbo makes a few extra bucks....

As does every other commercial guy that docks in the marina..

However these back of the pick up steak sellers seem to always say there steak is like Omaha Steaks...

That is one pathetic claim...

Omaha Steaks SUCK!!!

dafischer 07-06-2012 07:16 PM

When we do down to Ocean City, MD to visit my MIL, there's an older guy who hangs at one of the drinking establishments that we frequent. He works on the docks, and always has coolers full of fresh scallops and lobster, which turned out to be superb seafood. We always bring an extra cooler to bring some back to NJ.

Beef out of a pickup? I don't think so. And yes Tim, you're right. Omaha Steaks does suck. I can get much better meat for a lot less at our local butcher.

GH85Carrera 07-06-2012 08:00 PM

If it is not someone I know I usually don't open the door. Salesmen, never. On one occasion I was outside already and the steak guys showed up. I told him my standard line. I never ever under any circumstances purchase anything sold door to door.
