2010 Mercedes E350. Any common issues?

Getting the urge to get back into a 4 door car. Panamera's are still pretty $$$. I was happy with my 06 E350. Pretty good deals on 2010 CPO cars at the moment.

Any common problems with the new E350?

Rare, they sold 100 gas to every diesel here in the US. But they do get significantly better fuel economy (22 mpg city / 33 mpg freeway vs 17/24 gas) and there's no performance loss (torque!). Both factors mean that a 2011 gas is about $5000 less than a comparable 2011 BlueTec diesel. They didn't offer the diesel in 2010. If you're looking at a 2010 gas, the delta becomes $7-8K.

Historically, diesel MBs hold their value well but buying used you're not ahead of that game. Both engines will last longer than you care to keep the car.

An example of a 2010 gas E350 Sport that would be available for ~$40K F.O.B. San Fran

Heavily optioned, 22K miles, no paintwork, four brand new Michelins, under factory warranty until 09/26/2013

Here's a 2011 E350 BlueTech diesel, also in San Fran
Same 22K miles, but warranty until 11/29/2014
Also heavily optioned including adaptive cruise and lane departure, but not a Sport pkg
Also four new tires, no paintwork
Should be available at ~$46K

My MIL has one and loves it. 2011 E350 sport. She had a 2009 C350 sport before that. She only has around 15k miles on it but no issues to report...and she calls me about every little thing on her cars. I've driven the car a handful of times and like it as well. Ride and handling is nice given the cars intended purpose. Will consider a CPO one as a replacement for my wife's current car when the time arrives. MIL is reporting 27-28 mpg cruising 80 mph on long road trips.

My wife has the 08 version. Coincidently we bought it through Eric (Kaisen). One of my partners has the identical 2011 model after the redesign and I spent four hours in it last week.

We couldn't be happier with our car and my parter's seemed very similar. It might be even nicer and it is certainly more full of high tech toys. If you like your cars a little less techish but still nice, look at the 07 and later pre-redesign models. They really dressed up the interior in the 07 refreshing of the model. It seemed more like a redesign to us when we were looking at them. We didn't like the 06 model all that much, but we absolutely fell in love with the 2007-2009 refreshed models.

Both the 2007-2009 and 2010-present cars have enough power to do what you need and are capable and comfortable. I say it's like having a retired SAS paratrooper as your driver, saying yes, I'll get you into that gap in traffic sir, no problem, mind your tea, an te next thing you know you're going 95 and haven't even spilled your wife's coffee as you trade paint with Cameros and Mustangs around the twisties. It really is that good.

Have Eric show you what he can get you one for compared to what the local dealer wants, and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I am curious about the tire replacements Eric. 22k miles is nowhere near end of life for tires, at least on sedans and regular cars I am used to. Am I missing something? What does a set of tires cost for the E350?

George
