This guy has reflexes like a race car driver! Luck? Skill?

Luck or skill? What do you think?

I agree with 126coupe..."that is not luck, pure reflexes, experience"...plus a little luck.

Not luck. That's reaction. His view was probably better than the camera. If nothing else, your eyes have fantastic resolution compared to a camera. He probably also picked up the mist track before even seeing the car. There is probably a second in there to react, judging from the video time? What's really amazing is how he keeps it straight on the grass and back on the track.

Experience, he was slowing down before the camera picked up the other cars. He knew and was expecting something.

He lifted his hand to his chest when it was over.

I would have was well.

I bet he never touched his brakes.

Experience helped save the day. He knew something was up when he saw the tire tracks ahead criss crossing - he went neutral throttle until he saw the car, then he got real busy. Could have been much worse if he was hard on the gas at that point.

Agreed. Amazing level of skill. I had to repeat that clip at least a dozen times. Thanks for posting it.

Eyes are peeled alright. Not in the same league as that but brings some interesting comparison to snowmobiling with a fast group of sledders (70 to 80 mph + squirts to 100) in whiteout conditions on unfamiliar twisty, elevation changing, tree lined narrow trails for endless miles. I can't explain it what that zone is and where your heart is beating crazy but best described as near insane. My guess is Jacques Villeneuve Jr., also an avid sledder had trained eyes for conditions in the rain.

With the other cars kicking up mist, wouldn't his visor been coated with water?

Sometimes I cannot see a thing on my hovercraft with my goggles all sprayed on.

Yeah, I thought he backed off the throttle, too. But, if you step through the video, his right hand comes off the wheel a split second before the maneuver. Couldn't tell if that was because he was relaxing his hand on the straight or if it was a "Where'd they go?" gesture.

He started in karts at age 6.

Absolutely 100% correct. He's talented but he also has the dream and that has made him work very hard to become as good as he is.
