The Road to the Sun in Glacier and what to see in Idaho
Who had driven the Road to the Sun and what advice would you offer. We are doing it in a couple of weeks. We leave Saturday morning toward Tahoe.

I have. It is spectacular, but very narrow. When I was at Glacier, I went over the mountain on the RTTS several times. It isn't a fast drive, and there is typically lots of traffic. Just enjoy the views. Another great road is the Beartooth highway just outside of Red Lodge, Montana, and the east entrance of Yellowstone at Cook City. The most spectacular road I've ever been on. You can go faster there too. Traffic is well spread out typically. In Idaho, go down through Driggs and into Jackson Hole WY, then up thru Yellowstone, across the Lamar Valley, out thru Cooke City over the Beartooth.

Road to the Sun...IF you can, go over and back, driving it both ways. Totally difference views and experience. If you can only do one way, do it from east to west. You will be looking at mtns that are behind you back going the other way.
Idaho? 1) Hwy 95/55 from Lewiston, McCall and down to Boise. 2) Stanley 3) Lolo Pass (Hwy 12) with a side trip to Elk City 4) East side of Lake Couer de Alene thru Harrison. 5) Hwy 71, west from Cambridge down into Hell's Canyon to Oxbow.

Glacier has areas prone to flooding
the top of Beartooth is a surreal place full of wildlife after the pass opens in spring. I've never been there in summer but it would still be worth the ride

Going to the Sun Road Glacier & Bear tooth Hwy / Pass Red Lodge.
You should see them both if you are up this way. You will not be disappointed. Going to the Sun Road will be slow going.

Doesn't have to be slow - Go early in the day or late in the day....
2 weeks ago I came up Hwy 1 in CA (fav M/c road) from Atascadero to Carmel on a Sunday....Passed just a few cars all morning....I was on the road at 5:30 am....

Its a great ride! My wife and daughter had thier hands in a waterfall as we drove thru the pass! Then driving thru the giant snowdrift in 90 degree heat was pretty cool! It was in a SUV loaded with camping gear.....one day I will do it by myself in the 911!
