I get the dumb a$$ award of the year...

I recieved a flier for a swap meet in Petaluma California that I got at the swap meet at Parts Heaven in Hayward in June of this year. For what ever reason I had it in my mind that swap meets are always on Sundays.
Too make a long story short....
I reserved a room at a local motel in Petaluma. (two hour drive from my home) I didn't want to get up at 2am to get a good spot.
I reserved a UHaul trailer a week in advance. Picked it up, loaded it...
Convinced my girls...(wife and daughter, and dog) to help me with said swap meet....
We were an hour and a half into the drive to the swap meet when I recieved a text from the gentleman that bought my old Carrera that said the swap meet was "TODAY not tomorrow! Rectal arrest!!!
I am an idiot!!! I had it in my mind that swap meets are ALWAYS on Sundays! Not Saturdays! &()^%(^*%$TY{P!!!!!
Please kick me now! I deserve it!

PS, I had a really cool, random mix of stuff to sell out there. Still kicking myself in the rear. It'll be one of those stories that I'll never live down.

So whaddya got to sell? Might as well make the thread worth your while.

Yeah, you're not living this down for awhile. How old's your daughter?

Man, that's a bummer. Sorry, man. I hope you made the best of it.

I can't tell you how many times Daylight Savings Time messed us up going to the Times Grand Prix (CanAm) at Riverside,

LOL! That is pretty funny. Especially in times of the internet where the date can be looked up in seconds! :) You have to take such stuff with humor though ...

Never heard about the Petaluma meet. May be a blessing in disguise - you may want to hold out for the PH meet. Otherwise, selling here actually will yield better $ unless we are talking bulky stuff you don't care to ship. I have sold here and at the PH meet and definitely got better pricing her - the PH meet has more of a garage sale flair IMHO.

I brought out lots of 993 stuff, lots of 356 goodies, a little Boxster doodads, a butt load of Cayman S interior parts, and a mish mash of other things from 911SC cars to Carreras. BTW, she is 13 going on thirty...Thinks she knows all. Just glad she is still willing to attend something like this with her dad and mom. Love my girl!

I believe all things happen for a reason!
We came back home and to our surprise... Our front door was WIDE open! I'm talkin WIDE open. Had we been gone for two days, our home would have been cleaned out! Our gaurdian angels were on over time. Thank God! We came home! We have lived here for 24 years and never left the house open when we are not home. Scarey!

That's spooky. Are you sure you left it open, vs somebody breaking in and getting scared off?

Don't feel so bad, I was supposed to meet my buddy at the Hershey swap meet this past April. The day of the swap meet, he never called ,or texted, I just assumed that he was a no show. Up early the next day, and on the road , to go home, ,my phone rings, and he wants to know where we are meeting at? "Uh, Bob, it was yesterday" He was nearly there, and it is a 4 hour drive for us.

Positive that either my wife or I left it open. We were rushing around getting everything ready to go and just brain farted.
The swapper was supposed to be a good one too. It was at a winery in Petaluma. (Adobe Roads Winery) My wife even made some of her gourmet brownies to sell out there. Mexican chocolate and Lavender brownies. Would have paired nicely with the wine tasting. Anyone want a brownie? :p

How did I not hear about this event? Adobe Road is Kevin Buckler's winery, at one point (they still might) they had a tasting room in the middle of TRG. I live about 10 minutes from there.

Well we may have to share that award because I made the same mistake... Trucks loaded up and I made it down in an hour and a half to an empty lot. I just assumed it was on swap meet Sunday and didnt pay attention. Bright side is that it forced me to clean the garage out. :) What can I say, I'm a bit of a ditz at times....

I'm glad I'm not the only one that assumed it was on a Sunday. Aren't swap meets always on Sundays?

We made it as far as deep dark Oakland from San Jose before I got the text.

The old 914 swap meet was always on the time change weekend on Sunday.

I arranged to meet up and caravan with one of my 914 buddies (Dr. Evil aka Mike95125) and his girlfriend (now wife). We arrange to meet at a Denny's near his house. I show up and he's not there. I order breakfast a few minutes.

Phone rings. "James? Yeah? You at the Denny's? Yeah. Oh. We'll be over in a few minutes."

They had shown up an hour early because of the time change, ate breakfast and fumed that I was late. They only realized the time change when they got back home, turned on the computer and it said the time on the PC was adjusted...

Oh, another story, I had a big get together at my House in Western Mass. One of the guys showed up on Saturday, when it was on Sunday. We ate his apps and he helped me get the keg.

The first year I went to the big swap meet at Hershey, I somehow got off in Carlisle, where there was also big swap meet, only all Chevy. Yeesh. By the time I figured out where to go and how to get there, most all the action was over.

I seem to recall my wife getting me directions to go, which I left on the kitchen table after getting up in the middle of the night to make the ten hour drive. I was definitely not firing on all cylinders that day.

Earlier this year I wasted $50 in valve cover gaskets thinking it was time to adjust the valves.

I double checked the mileage in the morning (after cleaning the engine, removing plugs and so forth the day before). By morning the engine was nice and cold and discovered I was about 7,000 miles too early.

I closed it all back up after checking the head studs.

I at least got fresh seals and cleaned spark plugs out of it - I guess.
