My son rode his bike without training wheels today!

What a proud moment for us today. My son decided that today was the day we could take the training wheels off his bike. He needs to work on his balance but he's got it.

For those of you that don't know-my son has been diagnosed with Aspberger's. Riding a bike is something several doctors told us probably wouldn't happen. As I understand it, a common trait is a sense of being off balance, even on solid ground(or something like that).

Of course, I was just looking at the random pics thread and he saw one of BVD's pics of the car jumpers on bicycles and asked me if I would build him a ramp.

Obviously, I told him no.

What parallel lives we live. My son has also been diagnosed with asberger's, and just last week, he was up on two wheels all on his own. I know exactly how you feel, what a Proud moment in a Dad's life, and a monumental moment for the kid.
There is no turning back now, I have him up on two wheels, he is hooked on riding the quad, and he loves taking spins in the Porsche. I think we have the makings of another little gearhead on our hands.
Congratulations, I guess now, we just have to wait it out for the first skinned knee.

Congrats, now take him to a BMX track, that way he can jump, plus you might think about getting a BMX bike to ride with him.....

Byron--I can see it now..........

Father/Son tabletops over the 911!!

My friends and I built a way-to-large plywood ramp and jumped over my Dad's Corvair back in the day.

Holy crap. I don't even want to think about my kids doing that!

I have a few friends who race with their kids, great bonding and healthy..
There are a lot worse things he could occupy his time with...

Random pic from the local track..

Congratulations...

I love it when kids end up doing things people say they can't.

Congrats.

Work with him on planning the ramp and build it together letting him do as much work as possible cause he's going to go build his own anyway.

Congrats! Proud moments. I remember when mine ditched the training wheels like it was yesterday!

horray!!! we are all proud of him.

just so you know..my first ramp was a few bricks and a plank of wood. who knew i would become a civil engineer..that first ramp was ZERO indication of my future career. surviving the ramp was first order of business, before you could even consider sticking the landing.

I can't believe I'm the first to add this bike ramp moment.

Enjoy riding with your son - he'll be leaving you in the dust soon enough.
