Obin-924 on COPS

Anybody catch the fadded red 924 on COPS Saturday nite. This old man and his young male passanger pull up to a friends house and the old man starts honking his horn. The friend comes out, they start talking, and this bad ass comes out of the house pissed that he heard a honking horn. He then punches this poor guy in the face a few times and the old guy tries to drive away but hits the bad ass's mothers car. Bad ass starts yelling for his mother to get his gun and to my amazement she does. The old man and passenger get away and the bad ass jumps into this fadded red 924 to chasem down. The old guy pulls into an alley and the passenger runs but the old guy is to hurt from the beating to run. The bad ass pulls up to the alley, gets out of the 924, walks the alley and blows the old guy away as he sat in his car. Bad ass then flees town but comes back to finish off the young passenger who is the only witness. This guy barges his way into the guys house but can't find him. In the process of searching the house he shoots one woman and kills the guys daughter. Could this guy be a member of this board?

No, I didn't happen to catch the episode of 'Cops' over the weekend. I appreciate the recap, though and do have a couple of questions.

Why on God's green Earth did you feel it necessary to recap the murder of at least one innocent person and the senseless shooting of two others?

In what alternative universe do you think that Obin could possibly appreciate you telling him about this, were you thinking that he would post this on his Porsche movie reference page?? A 924 used in three shootings, one resulting in a death? Tell me you had a temporary disassociation episode, I would hate to think that there actually people that flipping unfeeling walking around.

Are you convinced that EVERY person that owns a Porsche is a member of this board? Maybe you were convinced that the guilty party would contact you and arrange to turn himself into the authorities? Why would you ask such an ignorant question? Could this guy be a member here? Are you serious with this? Good God, did you stop to think about how unbelievably unfeeling and offensive this question is? Is there a murderer on the Porsche board? Had you been drinking heavily before you posted this? Or are you just that cold?

Ever think to yourself BEFORE posting, 'what will this add to this board?'

I don't get enough of this kind of crap everyday in the newspaper and on television, I have to come here to read it?

Here's a thought, have a point! Maybe just maybe something about Porsches that the group can actually appreciate? How about we keep the crime and murder stories away from the board where we talk about the enjoyment of sports cars, ok?

I think CH kind of meant it in a "joking" manner when he wondered if they were a member of this board. BTW Obin keeps track of all Porsches on television and movies, so I guess this qualifies.

Am I missing something? What they showed on TV was a re-creation wasn't it? You know, actors, borrowed cars etc. I'm assuming the question was " to the guy who loaned his 924 so this episode could be filmed, are you on this board?". Now as to telling all the grisly details of the re-creation, I agree we don't need to read that crap since we see it enough on the News, you know, real people's lives being ruined by scum.

Actually I reread the guy's original post and it appears he WAS actually asking if the actual murderer might be on this board. Unbelievable.

dayam

But what goes better with liquor and fast cars than a side dish of murder?

The guy was just asking a long winded question, don't be so uptight, you take all the fun out of throwing rocks at dogs.

A few questions?

1.Anyone tape it?

2. Anyone need a stressball?

3.Am I rubbing you the wrong way?

4.Whats so wrong about irreverant humor?

5.SUNY Brockport has a great Arts + Society Class which discusses morality and the paradox of horror (morality vs enjoyment). Shouild you take this class?

Best to all-chris

I can sort of see the point of him asking if the murderer is
from this board.....Porsche involved in something, this is a Porsche board, thus the question. I’m sure a 924 was used in the real case, or they would not have used it in the re-creation, so there is someone out there who was driving a 924 when he
committed that horrible crime. It’s not really that far a stretch to ask that question. Although, I’m quite positive if the murderer was here, he would not fess up to it being him and having to ask that question is obviously moot.

I myself, have often wondered if there were any famous people or “murderers” on this board (or any board, for that matter). Sure we traded pictures and stories, but who is to say that what we see over the internet is the truth? I know the trust level
amongst us all is very high - probably the highest I’ve EVER seen on any “chat” or “forum” site I’ve ever visited - but I can say, without a doubt, that there HAS to be at least one or two people who are on this forum (or have paid a quick visit) that have something to hide - be it something positive (like a celebrity status or something) or something negative.

I’m sure someone here has had a brush with the “internet effect” - that being when you think your talking/chatting with someone and they turn out to be something totally different than what you believed. I once chatted on ICQ with a girl for like 6 months, only to have her tell me she was married after we created somewhat of a trust level between us both (and she was so damn cool - it sucked). You could very easily chat with a “women” for a while and then figure out (thru common
sense) that perhaps it’s not a female at all. I have actually met a person on the net who I have ended up meeting in person (I only did it once) and she was who she said she was (very cute girl from Malaysia who was in my town on business). A friend of
mine was not so lucky. He saw a picture of a girl with whom he was chatting and ended up meeting her at a local hotel, but she was about 300 pounds bigger than he thought and not quite as attractive. What are these people thinking? Setting up
meeting times with someone they KNOW thinks they are someone else - very odd.

Anywho - the point is you never know who is who over the net. Albeit, in all of our case, I’m sure we all have a pretty good idea that Ribs is Ribs and that Craig is just plain silly and the regulars can be totally trusted - but doesn’t anyone here ever wonder
if there are people on this board who could just be people who wish they had a Porsche and come here to “pretend”?? Am I crazy in thinking that?

Who knows who is reading these posts. Perhaps people right from the Porsche factory looking for tips and free market research. Perhaps Jerry Seinfeld himself is reading this
right now saying, “yada, yada, yada” to himself. Who knows? But asking if a murderer is here is a bit over the top - but I do see the thought process.

Wink

heh heh, offhand, there was this show on Discovery Channel (or was it TLC?) a while ago about a guy that trains people on self defense and offense. they get trained on how to shoot, defend against hijackers, etc.

one part had people sitting in chairs and a sharpshooter shot LIVE AMMO at a dirt hill near them. the challenge was to try to see if they could tell where the shots were coming from.

anyways, there was one part where he taught people how to drive their way out of a road block or terrorist attack. in this "exercise" the "terrorists" drove a red 911. i thought that was a bit odd, but seeing how some people in the 911 part of this BBS have behaved in the past...

no further comment

Color me impressed, Boyee, that's a nice little piece there. I'm sure there are a few of these people frontin, living the lie, and, if something ever happened to my 944, I'd be one of them. I've owned and worked on a great my different vehicles, and I'll say my 944 is the most fun & the hardest to work on. I've thrown wrenches and cussed more than all the other cars combined.
I love my #&^%($^&%^@$^%!%^& german b***h

Well first off let me say when I asked if this guy could be a member of this board it was my own injection of humor to the post. It's my bust in saying this was on COPS. The incident was aired on Americas Most Wanted. The 2 shows run back to back and seem like the same ole to me. I posted this because Obin tracks sitings from television and movies of 944's. For those I offended by explaining the story, don't read it. I didn't kill anybody, I just gave an explantion for a car being shown on television. It's reallity. It happened and there is a nationwide hunt out for the guy. Ready now, you better lock your doors at nite. He might want to step up to a 944 and leave no wittnesses. Obin, that was in Detriot. BallGoFer, after now fully reading your post I must say, you are one lame dude. Don't wet yourself.

I hesitate to post to this topic, but it does slightly relate to something that I've been thinking about for quite a while now. One of the nicest things about this board is the for the most part, people are free to say what they want and let their personalities show and they don't get flamed for it. About a year ago someone ripped into someone, I think it was Kurt B on the 911 board, for saying something outrageous. Jack Olsen calmed the situation down by gently telling the new poster that anyone who read the board knew Kurt was a wild man and that's why we loved having him on the board. The post immediately became more civil and I have had a better appreciation of the more flamboyant personalities on the board ever since.

Now I'll let anyone who doesn't know Obin in on the joke, although it's been pretty well explained by the original poster above.

Obin is one of our resident wild men. He is also one of the most enthusiastic 944 owners and promoters of the 1980s vintage front-engine water cooled Porsches around. He regularly posts updated Porsche sightings from TV and movies. So to people familiar with Obin it was kind of funny to read in the Off Topic Rantings (yes, that's the title of the forum) a story that combined a water cooled Porsche, a wild story, and a suggestion that Obin may have been the guy on the COPS or America's Most Wanted show.

Frankly, I was holding my breath to see how Obin was going to take it. As you can see from his posts, Obin saw the joke and took the humor in it for what it was worth.

So should the rest of us.
