man..i loved George Jefferson!! i was a very very young kid..but i watched that show.

apparently he lived/retired in my hometown of El Paso texas. my brother said he saw him all the time at restaurants, and hanging with local musicians. sad he died alone, in some el paso home.

Wow. He died alone? About 20 years ago he used to live 2 doors down (or up) from my parents. I think the only interaction we had with him was when his Rolls Royce rolled out the driveway (without anyone in it), down the street, and flattened our mailbox. His peeps were very nice about replacing it.

TV will never have a character like him again due to the PC pussies, I loved his interactions with Archie bunker....talk about funny :-)

I think it was the first TV show to have an interracial couple on it - George's neighbors - Tom and Helen. Pretty cool.
