maybe i didnt handle a discussion with a friend/coworker well.

he was all fired up this morning..wanting to write a letter to Congress. i sat down to listen. (first mistake)

he was panty bunching about the shooting at the batman screening..he wants to write a letter asking them to....well never mind..this would go to PARF..FAST!

bottom line, he wouldnt let me finish a sentence..he would say something, and i would reply, "yes but then...."
blah blah blah..
"i know but...."
blah blah blah.
"please let me fin...."
blah blah blah
"wow, you wont let me spe..."
blah blah blah..

i got up and walked away. i didnt get one sentence in..not one! now he is all butt-hurt..and wont talk to anyone.

dhoward 07-25-2012 08:07 AM

Nicely done.

When I read the title I thought you probably punched someone's lights out. ;):D

ossiblue 07-25-2012 08:50 AM

Actually, you never did have a discussion--you were the virtually silent audience to a rant. You handled it well, IMO, and the fact he's not talking to anyone is an indication of his anger and frustration at the shooting and the realization (your reaction/actions) that not everyone is as obsessed with his single course of action as he wants.

sammyg2 07-25-2012 09:07 AM

Shoulda called him a poopy head.

Brando 07-25-2012 09:38 AM

Sounds like they just wanted to vent. Sometimes people make it apparent, otherz not so much.

Baz 07-25-2012 09:52 AM

Reinforces my opinion that while passion is a beautiful thing - the way our country is being screwed up by those we elect - passion has been converted to frustration beyond words....

Remember who the boss is come election day and don't be afraid to fire 'em if they're not doing what YOU want!

Otherwise you will continue to be subjected to co-worker's who are 'frustrated' - rather than just passionate.

Well Done!

Latigo: I don't like anything west of Riverside Drive.
Patience: Where's that?
Latigo: New York City.
Patience: On the Hudson River?
Latigo: Yeah, born and raised there.
Patience: Tell me about it!
Latigo: Tell you what about it?
Patience: ALL!
Latigo: Well let's see, they, they don't carry guns. And they got a cop on every street corner to keep people from shootin' one another.

Latigo: See that's just how I ruined my favorite 45. A man started talking to me when I didn't want to be talked to. Bent the barrel over the top of his head ...................

Sounds like u did the right thing. If somebody is blind angry, or totally irrational just walk away. Except if they have a gun in their hand, then revert to plan b:):):):)

Vash, don't mix with craziness, ever.
Identify it, understand it, avoid it.

They are cheap around here. Igloo's factory is about 15 minutes from here.

Devil's advocate: So he wanted to vent. What's wrong with just sitting there and letting him let it all out? Not really a conversation, and not what you wanted to do I understand. But sometimes when someone's all fired up, it's OK to just let him/her have at it. You were under no obligation to do so, and you may have even felt suckered into it. But sometimes it's best to just nod and keep quiet. Unless you don't like the guy. Then it's OK to just walk out on him.

fred cook 07-25-2012 04:39 PM

You could..........

send the guy an email explaining that you felt that he needed to cool down a bit so that you could have a real conversation. Then offer to have the discussion at lunch or after work. At least that should smooth over the work relationship and get rid of the poochy-lip attitude. From the rest of your opening statement(s) I suspect I know where his request was headed. If his request was something that you are not prepared to do, that is another issue. At least he will have had is say and will get it out of his system. Just for the record, I have had to this very same thing more than once over a 32 year carrer.

schamp 07-26-2012 04:59 AM

If your lucky he won't talk to you for a couple of weeks. You win.

widgeon13 07-26-2012 05:12 AM

If you are not lucky, he will come back with an AR-15.

You never know.

Good point, better arm yourself and be prepared.
Besides, nobody likes a victim.

sc_rufctr 07-26-2012 05:55 AM

It sounds like he just wanted to vent. So don't take it personally.
