Going back to work after 2.75 year convalescence -I am happy..

Hello.
I was in a car accident along with my Son, two and three quarter years ago.
A bad one.

Today I got a call from a very respectable and substantial Machine Shop. From word of mouth they found out I wasn't working.
Good thing , I have a good name in the oil-field.

I went in for a meeting and let them know the past situation and up to today's. This includes, my Divorce and Kids. Also, my health and lack of stamina. I let them know it'll take time to get back into what I once was.

I start on September 4th, along with a very good pay and Insurance Plan.

I lack confidence and am worried of course about failing.
e.g. Come into work Monday, work hard. Tuesday, phone in and say I can't make it because of pain.

I really do love Machining and can hardly wait to get back in it.
-Want to forget about my Disability and make some good money.
Further more, it really sucks to stay at home and cut the grass twice a week and 'talk to the animals'.
I am tentative but the other side of me, wants to conquer.

Having been is a similar situation all I can say you owe it and need it for yourself to do this. Put the doubts aside and do it.

For me not being able to work and convalescing at home was like an 12 month jail sentence. I am sure you will get back into the swing of things very fast.

It's about intestinal fortitude. You have to and will find a way to work through the pain and the associated crap that comes along with your situation.

Go get 'em! Good Luck!

Great news... So you have some time before your start.

Why not do some light walking to get your fitness up. Start by doing about 20 minutes a day and take it from there.
It may not sound like much but it's absolutely better than doing nothing.

4 weeks of walking will make a difference.

Good luck champ.

Congrats on the recovery. You will do just fine. +1 on the light exercise to get the body ready. As Yoda said, "Do not try, just DO!".

Best of luck. Work is therapeutic and inspiring. It sounds like you have set the right expectations. I have been amazed at what some physical therapy has done for a bad shoulder and some yoga for my bad knee. Fitness goes a long way in all aspects of life.

congrats..
do hope your son is doing well also..
you know what is coming..
so get ready..
and when you start..
start slow and don't be so hard on yourself..
your employer knows your potential once up to speed..
they are giving you chance..
you need to give yourself one as well..
good luck...

Good luck with it! Always loved making things and miss having a lathe and mill to work with.

Great news.

As for work, be the Tortoise, not the Hare. Work mostly hard Monday, but keeping enough in reserve so you can work mostly hard on Tuesday. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you. - Airplane - YouTube

Very cool. A co-worker tells me "It is a marathon, not a sprint." I always like that. I think the walking idea is excellent as well.

Best of luck!
Larry
