Dehumidifer Recommendation?

I need to run a dehumidifier in my basement year round.

We seem to burn these out every couple of years. It's a major waste.

Anyone have recommendations for one with a heavier duty cycle? The area is not huge, but I don't see why these things can't last longer.

I have the Frigidaire 70 pint. Been running for a year or so, seems to work well but can't comment on longevity.

What are the failed brands you've bought, and how long did each last?

Currently have an Amana D565E, for what that is worth. It's probably 3 (maybe 4) years old, but for all I know it stopped working a few months ago.

I don't remember what we had previously - I'm pretty sure I got it from Sears though, so probably a frigidaire? Probably lasted about 4 years.

Not horrible for what they cost, I guess, but I hate disposable stuff.

Consider getting a larger one that won't cycle as much, and turning up the humidity level.
40-60% is normal range (I've heard) but it could be set higher.

Also, it there's active air flow(i.e. open windows), the effect of the de-humidifier will be zero.

Little to no active airflow. I should probably keep the humidity level higher though. In the past I had it cranked down pretty far.

This unit from the site Steve linked looks cool. The question is, would it last > 4 times as long as the cheaper ones?

We have used a DeLongi (sp) at our house in the mountains. Has done a pretty good job for a couple of years.

Thanks for the link. I'm looking for one that does the whole house (3000 SqF) and at least now I got a starting point; NovelAire Comfort Dry 400 Gas-fired Whole House Desiccant Dehumidifiers.

Please send money

I have two Frigidaire LAD704DUL 70 pt dehumidfiers that I bought at Lowes. One upstairs and one downstairs. They do a great job. The only problem that I can see is that the have a drain designed so you can set it up to drain without emptying the reservoir by hand. That feature really doesn't work and I empty by hand.

They work so well that I am happy to empty once or twice a day. Mine automatically shut off when full.
