Seven months, seven pounds

Fer crying out loud. Started working out taking Tae Kwon Do 3 days a week. 7 months later I've lost all of 7 pounds... Not that it's my main goal (I'm 5'7" and 152# now) but still, that's 12 HARD workouts to lose every pound.

It's nice not to be wheezing after I climb two flights of stairs though...

You probably lost a lot of fat but gained muscle, I think muscle is twice as dense as fat. You are doing great!

But how much body fat is actually gone? Turning on exercise will make muscle mass go up. Likely you lost over 10 pounds in body fat which is very respectable, especially looking at it in percent of your total weight. Longer term weight loss is also much easier to maintain than dropping that in a month.

muscle over fat... if you had measured yourself before and then after you would see that you gained muscle and lost the fat...

These are good to keep the frustration level down when exercising. You want to see your body fat % drop as opposed to your weight.

I doubt TKD 3 times a week has added that much muscle weight.

but had you not been doing the exercise, you probably would have gained 5 lbs.

So, it's really a 12 lb swing!

At any age over 45, any downward movement in weight over a 6+ month period is a major victory.

Try CrossFit, you will get shredded fast!!

But, the main thing is diet (eating habits) it is 85% of the battle. No matter how hard you work out, if your diet isn't good your just beating your head against the wall.

Never tried martial arts, always been interested.

Try tracking your waistline every few weeks. Usually a better indication of progress than just weight gain/loss.

Thanks guys. I think I understood that, its just nice to hear I guess. Man I love TKD. My favorite bit is sparring. 2 months ago I graduated to full-contact sparring which is awesome to get out some of the weeks fustrations. Last week I kicked a guy in the head for 3 points. (Not hard, it was practice).

Slider, actually I switched to a super-low fat eating regimen for 3 days and a pound came off right there, amazing! Again, I don't really need to lose weight, but it's nice to see I lost an inch off the jean size.

I think the 2-3# I'd like to have gone are focused around the stomach now. I can feel a 6-pack under there, but it's "insulated" with about 1/2" of, umm... skin.

90% of weight loss is diet. Get rid of all the sugars, fatty stuff: it'll shed.

You're supposed to be always hungry, except immediately following your meals. :/

If you're uncomfortable in your hunger, you're doing it right.

Women talk about this - they don't drop lbs. as much as inches.
Nice work - dropping weight is a b!tch.

I like this on-line diet and exercise journal.

The numbers aren't all that accurate, but you can customize them to numbers that are reasonable. Keeping the records and seeing how your diet and exercise habits look in retrospect plus having the daily goal of balancing calories in/out has helped me tremendously.

Worried about 152???????? I think I weighed that in the 3rd grade?????? Football coaches loved me in the 7th grade at 205 and 6-2"
