I thought it was hilarious, thanks for posting.

I didn't mind watching it, but I couldn't help thinking, "wow - this is the EXACT opposite of mens water polo!"
Seriously - have you guys been watching the water polo? I've never watched it before this Olympics. Sort of like rugby in the water. I know that you get points for putting the ball into the goal, but I believe there is some type of award system in place for successful near-drowning of the opponent as well as more hits to the body and face than I've seen in some boxing matches. angela |
I didn't watch the video - life is too short - but synchronized swimming is a very demanding sport. The swimmer has to hold and change positions underwater, inverted, holding their breath for very long periods, propelling themselves without breaking their lines. Try getting yourself vertical and inverted, head and torso underwater, legs holding a specific angle and pose above the water, then propel yourself through an intricate movement with other similarly positioned swimmers, everyone holding their breath for up to three minutes, all appearing perfectly unruffled. I promise that none of us could come close to doing it.

Have a friend who went to Europe to play pro team handball, for a Swedish team I think, for a year after dental school.
I never heard of the sport until he told me about it. He described it as kinda like a cross between soccer, football and water polo, w/o helmets, said they're all nuts. Of course, my buddy Jeff is nuts; talked some of his frat boys into flying over to meet him and run with the bulls in Pamplona that summer, then years later, went back with some of them and did it again. Don't know when it became an Olympic sport, but it is this year: TEAM HANDBALL - THE BEST SPORT EVER - YouTube USA Team Handball Introductory Video - YouTube |

Reminds me of this movie...available on Netflix streaming, and pretty funny if you can enjoy subtitled films. |
