After killing a Morel with out realizing it anyone have some info on this one?

It's in a semi arid area in my yard with shade.

The holes (pits) in the surface is a bad sign and it's not a morel.
I'm guessing its a type of False Morel which are poisonous, I'd have to check my mushroom book to be sure.

We have, pick and eat morels every spring here, yum.

This is a morel, black morels look the same but are dark brown and/or almost black edges.

As I thought it's a False Morel, do not eat.

It actually looks like a bolete of some sort. I can't tell from the photo. If it is spongy in the "gill" area underneath it could be a bolete. But it has beetle bore holes in it so it is old. Leave it alone if you don't know what it is.
