Ideas for father/18yo son vacation?

As a recently divorced father of an 18yo son in college, I'm thinking about a father/son vacation in December. Any ideas from the Pelican brain trust?

He doesn't want to go skiing or scuba diving (my ideas.) We've never been to Europe but December doesn't seem like the time to go. Asia seems a little far but not out of the question.

If you can wait until mid April we have the Targa California in Central California. I'm divorced also and my Daughter came down to run it with me. We spent 3 great days doing the Rally. Just my 2 cents. Mike

There is always a lot going on at Daytona speedweeks in January, or how about a sailboat through the mediterranean visiting italy, spain, greece etc. and touring Ferrari or Lambo factory.

Don't forget that anything overseas would require a passport & shots for places in Asia. In Europe, a city that might interest you both - so you could bear bad weather inside. Rome would be good. Or Istanbul.

Any hints from him?

If you are thinking of going as big as Europe, then do New Zealand. The south island in particular is a jewel, and endless string of outdoor things to do. There are a number of cool towns / cities too!

Unlike dad, he's a total computer nerd. Programmer, WoW, etc. Not into cars or thrill seeking at all He was a great snow skier at about 7 or 8 but then discovered fear.

I've thought about Europe since we could spend time inside just looking around and not worrying about it not being a romantic time to be there. Does it rain or snow that much in December?

I would think a European vacation would be incomplete without a visit to Stuttgart, but many other things to interest him.

Exactly, that is why I think New Zealand needs to be looked at. They are in their "June" when it's December up here!

People are super friendly too!

Hookers and blow.

Someone had to say it.

Seriously, ask your son what he wants to do. He's 18 not 4.

Really think about going camping for at least part of it. In high school, our Boy Scout troop did a father and son canoe trip in the Boundary Waters, along the Minn/Canada boarder. It is by far the best memory I have spending time with my dad. We were not outdoors type people, but we both had fun.

You're not going to want to do the Boundary Waters in December, just in case you were considering it

Boundary Waters Ice Boating perhaps.

South America is experiencing spring/ summer right now if you wanted a warm place to do during December.
