Benchmade customer service is amazing.
if you need a good knife, give them a look. i thought i was being nitpicky. i have a folder..i felt the blade jiggled a little (tiny) bit when opened. i also felt a tiny shifty movement in the handles when i flexed the blade.
i sent it in with my complaint, asking if it was normal. no response..they could seriously improve with communication. simple email would be nice. but the blade showed up unannounced right now. looks like they completely rebuilt it!! i can see new bushings inside. blade is super smooth, and very tight within the handle. all new fasteners. i read the report. they listed the blade movement severity as "HIGH" who knew they took my nitpickiness seriously? they listed it as high priorty. some lady did the repair, signed the forms and sent it back to me..(Sent to my office) i love good customer service. like a breath of fresh air. |
I had a screw pull out of one of the handles (aluminum) once years ago. When I got the knife back, the only part that was original was the blade.

great company, just down the road a bit from my house-

+ 1 Benchmade has good customer service. I have an original 975 (Emerson) and was leary of mailing it in. They sent me the part I needed FOC.
Kershaw is another that has great customer service. Over the years I've needed a screw or two and have worn out a couple of torsion springs. They just drop them in an envelope and mail them out. J |

A lady friend gave me a William Henry knife (William Henry Studio - Superlative Function Deserves to be Elevated to Superlative Art) and there were a couple of things that needed attention so I called them. "Send it back, we will take care of it!"
It returned a couple of weeks later and was better than new, and for a WH knife thats saying a lot. Most good companies are like this. The ones that are not, I do not support... |

Good to know! I think my next blade is kershaw made.

Benchmade, Kershaw, and Spyderco are all tops (for large companies). The only small US company I've heard bad things about are Microtech--stay far, far away from those boneheads.

Oregon has a lot of good knife companies. Leatherman has fixed my Wave twice now for free with less than a weeks turnaround.
A good friend of mine is a designer for Gerber. I get a new knife for free every year. |
I love my Benchmades. I send them in occasionally for a resharpen, and they come back like new everytime. I had one years ago I used for digging (landmines) and the tip was broken. They sent it back with a new blade, it was obviously not used as intended, and I wondered what they would do with it. It may have helped that I sent it in with several other well used knives, and had a military return address, but they have always been awesome every other time.

+1 for Benchmade. Have owned these knives for about 20 years, work construction and have 1 in my pocket every day. Very durably great knives hold an edge for a long time. Life time edge guaranty.

Never had to test it, but Chris Reeve is supposed to have great service.

Ontario does have decent service and makes a decent blade. Just got my hands on a desert color scheme XM-1 and am loving it. Cheap enough I don't feel bad abusing it and it has taken all of the abuse perfectly.
