Web Designer with Porsche knowledge...needed

Hey all, I have been talking with Original Fit Interiors for the past week or so and I think I have him talked into building a web site. But he is not able to do this himself. Is there anyone who has the time experience and know how to take on a job like this? It would have to be secure ordering, pictures etc,etc,etc... If you have such an interest drop me a line (PM) and give me your information and I will forward it to him. I know he is willing to pay for such a service but I did not know what the priceing would be. I told him it would increase his business big time especially with everyone here who can never get a hold of him.... Wayne, I hope this post is not a problem, if so please feel free to delete it or move it to the land of the unknown.

There are off-the-shelf apps for a lot of this stuff to make ramp-up time faster. You actually need 2 people, or one really good one: one person who's good at UI design, and one who's good at back-end stuff. The really good UI people wouldn't know proper data modelling if you rubbed her nose in it, and most good programmers don't have a clue as to how screens and graphics should be laid out.

The other problem I see here is not necessarily the UI or back-end, but the carbon-based processes. It's one thing to have orders pouring in over the phone or through the web/email, it's quite another to get off once's a$$ and produce the goods and ship them out. There needs to be a comprehensive business plan and procedures behind it, or you're just going to have a black hole.

There's been this mad rush for everyone to get on the web, get a storefront setup, yada yada yada. Fine. But I can't count the number of times I've filled out an online order only to get *zero* response. When I call to follow up, I get a "we don't check that very often..."

Very valid points.... I was just trying to help him get more from the resources that are available. I can see this overwhelming him. But I thought I would throw it out there. I am sure this could be a very profitable business, and give him more work that he could handle.

Thanks for the insight.

From the lead times I've heard about, he may already have more work than he can handle... Although my targa materials showed up promptly. YMMV

I have experience with MySql/php database applications, and web-design.
Using this combination is very effective at minimal costs.

Maybe Wayne would be interested in product--> services trade. I'm not too far off from designing a similar app.

Unless the guy will answer email(s) promptly, forget it!

His business is more based on custom quotes not standard products off the shelf.

Web stores are for shipping boxes.

Will forward all the emails and ideas. Thanks to all.

Sorry Wayne
