19 yr. Old Arthritic Dog Seeks Comfort in Lake Superior...

The look on that dog's face, eh? - so peaceful & trusting. In a larger photo you can see the owners eyes are closed, as well.
Dogs are harbingers of The Good.
.
"A dog sleeps in blissful repose, head rested against the neck and shoulder of a man standing shoulder-deep in water.
Noticing Schoep limping, Unger took his dog to a veterinarian in Ashland. The vet prescribed pain-relief medication, but Unger doesn’t yet know how effective it will be. If Schoep isn’t able to get up without pain, it will be time to put him down, Unger said."
.

.
A great story:

That's a beautiful picture.

I've been there more times than I can count; it never gets easier. Sending good thoughts for dog and man.

Nice pic. This coming from a fellow "dog person".
If they don't sleep with you, they don't love you.

I have 3 pooches....1 that is blind and whose liver is starting to fail, 1 that has a very hard time walking due to arthritis, and #3 is just short and yappy. When I saw this, I went home and spent the night being extra nice to them.

That is some cold water. Bayfield, WI., where the picture was taken and the dog lives, is where you catch the Madeline Island ferry. We are part owners of a bar on Madeline Island, used to own a lot more RE and stuff there. It's a cool part of the world. In the winter, Lake Superior freezes over until you can drive an 18-wheeler across to the island a mile away.

That is a nice picture. I'd seen it on FB and knew that it went platinum but this is the first time that I read the article. Bayfield. whada ya know.

sometimes unconditional love is overwhelming.

I think that some people are misunderstanding Rika's post. The picture shows love between man and animal, nothing else. Loss is down the road for all of us with pets, unless we drop dead first.

Thanks. I did love my dog so much. Here is a shot of him watching my Dad play croquet on Madeline Island in '07, the dog was already going downhill fast and I had to put him down in Jan. '08. My Dad has also been on a slow decline for a decade because of cancer, he is alive but can no longer go to his favorite places like M.I. This is within a mile of where that viral pic was taken.

That is a great picture...

But... cold water? For arthritis? I thought heat was good for arthritis?

And yes the doggy pills are great... until they stop working... BTDT
