added a beemer to the stable- 2 wheeled
Today I added a 1976 BMW R90/6 to the stable and the Porsche's don't seem to mind . I've been wanting one of these for a long time and this one came up for sale locally on Craigslist. Been in the same family since being purchased new and has lived on synthetic oil since new. A little over 35,000 miles she's barely broken in . I was going to do a R90S conversion but I am so impressed with the originality of the bike I'm keeping her as is. OEM Luftmeister fairing with Krauser bags. All keyed alike and everything works. She came with maint. papers and drives very well but those Bing carb's are cold blooded . Now I have to get my license/insurance and knock 30 years of rust off this body of mine.

Very nice, all I know is oilheads.
What would cause the "brake failure" light to come on, was there a form of ABS that far back? Jim

Your taste is bikes matches mine exactly. It would be highly cool to have an S of that same vintage, but I too would leave that bike alone. Actually, no I wouldn't. I'd plan a trip on it. At 35K miles, you are correct. It is barely broke in. I would double that figure in fairly short order.
Very cool bike.

Nice score. I like the color.
NOW, having said that, IF IT WERE MINE, I'd lose the fairing and the trunk box, just keep the saddlebags. That's just me. A very nice looking machine either way! Score!

Was thinking the same thing. Fairing and trunk could be carefully packed away for touring. The bike wouldn't mind a bit!

Guys let me get my feet wet first before any mods !!! The seller I could tell really didn't want to let her go and I promised to take good care of her. I have never owned a bike with a full fairing so it will be interesting how I like it out on the open road. In theory it should be comfortable. I like the idea of being able to store the helmet in the rear trunk. And the storage pockets in the fairing are very nice, in total lots of storage room all told. I have gone out to the garage several times just to fire her up, the way she wiggles on the center stand when you blip the throttle is pretty cool. You gotta love those big jugs !!

I have only had one BMW bike, a 59 R26, almost perfect and very low miles. I never even took pictures of it. Don't know why. Sold it when I bought the property in Costa Rica. It was a fun little bike to get around town on.

Beautiful in white and looks mint. I owned the exact model and year with way over 100k miles, (don't remember exactly), it was a fantastic street bike.
I also owned a mint R75/5 with all of the accessories on it like that. The beauty is that you can remove them and put them back on as the mood suits you or for traveling, etc. Nice rig. |

Thanks guys. I never thought about placing the helmet in the side bags I'll have to try that. Rot 911 thanks for the beemer link to the website.

It's funny you say that as I had my heart set on a R90S which is the cafe version of this bike. But they are fairly rare and command $$$ that I wasn't willing to spend. Yes I could convert mine but I am really growing fond of the look of this period correct cruiser/tourer. Not saying in the future I might not do some tweeks but for now I'm going to do all the basic maintenance and just ride it as is.

sorry to repeat myself, but that m/c ergonomics site is real cool
Motorcycle Ergonomics both the standard and gentlemans cafe are listed on the site. if you open both at the same time, and use the mouse roller, the pictures slowly morph from one to the other, highlighting the subtle ergo differences between the 2 heres the static pics ![]() ![]() |
