He needs an ipod charger cord. Plug ipod into USB on computer, open iTunes on computer. It should ask him if he wants to sync it, click yes. If that doesn't happen he needs to check preference on manual syncing on the computer's itunes program.

You cannot import music from an ipod to itunes. I'll bet there is an app for that though.

I believe he wants to save the music from the used pod to iTunes then load his own stuff plus some of the saved music. iTunes will erase the music if you try to sync.
He needs to google 'save music from ipod to PC' and pick one of the numerous programs that will do it. |

Misread it. I thought he wanted to put his stuff on the iPod.
I think there is a program that is itunes spelled backwards that does that.

Sharepod allows you to take from the ipod to the computer.

I have a touch on 4.3 that I want to upgrade to iOS5 so that all of my apps work correctly. However, 40gbs of music in iTunes and only want 20gb or so on my iPod. If i simply update, I will lose all data on the iPod and will have to spend hours filling the ipod back up with music. What I am hoping to do is essentially copy my current iPod library to the computer, update the software, and then drag that select 20gb of music back on to the ipod. Any ideas? Edit: I have tried a couple of the free softwares (forgetting the names right now) and they would seem to hang up a third of the way into the job.
