measuring a small hole?
So I've got this old military trainer spoon (Mossberg 44US(c)) with clicky peep sight on the back.
Unfortunately, the little tiny detent and spring that makes the sight click on adjustment went AWOL ... What tool is used to measure a little tiny hole? I'm thinking something like a pin gauge? Hole is somewhere around 1mm ... but I've not been able to find documentation wiht a specific size. Also, according to what I've read online I can replace it with a ball bearing if I can find one small enough - do they make ball bearing this size? Should I start tearing apart an old CPU fan or something to find one? Or would a local machine shop type place have something? Thanks! |
post a pic.

You need to find someone with a set of tooling pins.... .001" increments should do it, no need for a .0001" set:D
A machine or tooling shop would be your best bet. A couple years back I could have handled it for ya but I retired. |
Buy some doughnut holes and compare the sizes. ;)

Must resist.

Get a $10 micro drill set.

Yup drill bits

Welp, another poster on rimfirecentral apparently had the same issue a while back and had to buy a few hundred ball bearings the proper size, and only needed one... so "a few" are on their way to me :)
|
You could also resize to a known ball bearing size

And so do I... beat me to it! |
I use drill bits backed up by a set of dial calipers to confirm the size.
