Warhawk War museum

My uncle flew milk runs in WWII over China, personnel mostly. He didn't talk too much about it while I was growing up, so I can't give you many details. A relatively safe job in a dangerous war. Came back home, built a career, helped my Grandpa work a farm, had a good life. He was my favorite uncle.

After he retired, he helped found this museum in Nampa, ID. It's mostly full of just stuff that people have from the war, but part of that stuff is pretty dang cool.

When my Aunt Betty died, he built a brand new wing onto the building in her honor.

If you ever get the chance to go, I heartily recommend it. It's not fancy, the displays are ad-hoc and a little on the funky side, but there is some amazing stuff in this building.

Thanks for the posts about the museum. Didn't know it existed. If I am ever in that general area I will make it a point to visit. It looks very interesting. And thanks to your uncle for his service and for all the work he put into the museum. By the way, I don't think any flying in that area would be called "milk run" given the state of technology and maintenance. And if he flew the "hump" he really had a set.

Herr - thanks for the post & thread. That's certainly a lot to be proud of. I love to see any type of institution which helps our society remember those historic years of our planet and those who sacrificed to keep the world safe.

If I ever get around to that part of the country I would love to see this museum. Thanks to your Uncle for his service.

My Mom was a WAVE in WW II and was recently escorted to Washington as part of the Volusia Honor Air program. She is 89.
