Any Sherlock fans out there?

That would be the new series starring the awesomely-named Benedict Cumberbatch.

This is Stephen Moffat in top genius form.

As for the last episode, The Reichenbach Fall, anyone have their theory on how SH did it? I have my theory.

I watched season 1 on NetFlix. Good show but I think a very limited run only for the series.

I like it!

Loved season one. The first episode of season two was great. The hounds episode was just ok. The falls episode was good. I'm curious too. Having to wait to find out sucks.

Is this the PBS series? I was going to DVR it but can't find it.

Excellent concept series. Problem is we'll have to wait a long time to find out the answer. Martin Freeman (Dr Watson) is Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit and has been kind of busy. Sherlock himself has been picked up by Hollywood so there is still no schedule for filming the third series I don't think.

At first, I had trouble getting into the new series, but I do now think it is very, very good.

The new take on "The Hound of the Baskervilles" was well done, I think.

I was, I must admit, a bit resistant to the new series on principle because I am very much a fan of the original Sherlock stories in book form and in the form of the masterful Jeremy Brett BBC series shown in the US on PBS. (For fans out there, I did prefer Edward Hardwicke to David Burke, but both were good as Dr. John Watson).

As for the resolution of the updated version of "The Final Problem", theories abound on the web.

Pfft!

No mention of Basil Rathbone? Philistines!

Anyone see the ads for "Elementary" with Lucy Liu?

Au contraire. If you watch Jeremy Brett, you'll see the weakness in the Rathbone portrayals. Not to mention, as more of a purist, I think the plots and writing of most of the Rathbone movies are weak at best.

I don't know what to make of "Elementary", but I am concerned.

One of the most important character points is that Dr. Watson is a vet who was wounded. The new series does this in a very interesting way. I doubt they are making Lucy Lu a military veteran, but they should.

I feel the same - season one was good all the way thru, while I only really loved the first ep of season two. Ep two was weak, ep three was just okay.

Anyway, here's how SH did it. I think I'm right, so consider this a spoiler.

First, Sherlock asks Molly for help. But we never find out for what the help is for. Later, he calls Moriarty and tells him to meet on the hospital roof. When they're on the roof and look down, there is a large truck parked at the curb. Also, there's a strange white hatched line forming a rectangle in the sidewalk. Next time they show the scene from above, there is a man fiddling with the side of the truck, right next to the rectangle.

There must be a stunt mattress in the truck. It will be brought out by Molly's crew and placed on the rectangle. This is the target. That's why SH asks Moriarty to step away from the edge of the roof. So Moriarty doesn't see anything. Moriarty fakes his own suicide, so SH must jump to completely fool him. SH orders Watson to stay put, then jumps. As Watson rushes to the scene, the truck blocks his view. Then he's hit by the bike, giving the crew time to prepare SH. The next shot from the roof shows the truck gone, and SH lying next to the rectangle. Not in it. Molly's crew rolled him off the mattress onto a puddle of blood that the crew had put in place while the mattress was there. Watson rushes in and even though he's a doctor, the people quickly pull him away and then haul SH away on a stretcher.

Elementary.

Jeremy Brett is still my top pick. I think I have read all of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's books.

Update. The third episode, "The Last Vow", on Sunday was amazing! One critic called it one of the best TV shows of all time. I have to agree. Good stuff, that.

david914 02-04-2014 04:57 PM

Awesome show. Our daughter told us about it and now we're hooked. Totally agree that "His Last Vow" was amazing. We can only hope they don't make us wait as long for the next season!

rusnak 02-04-2014 06:04 PM

Yes, I love that show. Possibly the best ever, as has been said.

5String43 02-04-2014 08:01 PM

We like it a lot here in this house. But we wish their "seasons" were more than three episodes long.

When I saw Sherlock, my mind flooded with visions of Lucie Liu (sp?).

The next episode is on Christmas. But hey, of this year! So we will have Dr. Who followed by Sherlock.

masraum 02-05-2014 08:29 AM

Sherlock is excellent (as is Elementary). We've been watching it since the beginning. This season was good. I really enjoyed The Empty Hearse, The Sign of Three wasn't bad, but was just OK, but we watched His Last Vow last night. It was the best of the season. There were lots of good twists and turns. One of my other favorites was A Scandal in Belgravia. Irene Adler was a great addition. I'm also glad that it looks like Moriarty is coming back. A Study in Pink was another great one. I was a bit disappointed with the Hounds of Baskerville episode.
