Who do you trust to....
 

put on new tires? I need a couple of new summer tires(likely Michelin Pilot) between now and next spring. I will take pics of the rims before the installation. The rims are standard Boxster rims, nothing special but they are in good shape. Who would u trust most to do a good job but noting that the Indy shop and Porsche dealer are more expensive than Canadian Tire(like Costco). I could also order from TireRack(likely best prices) and have them shipped up and they do have a recommended tire installer list. I have a 2001 Boxster base. So who do you trust to install tires and not damage your rims with a view as well to reasonably price tires?

I dismount mine, take 'em in, ask for their "best guy", and insist upon hovering over them while the work is being done. My 25 year old wheels are color matched to my car (Diamond Blue Metallic), and don't have a scratch on them since I polished out the scratches on the lips. One time the "manager" himself took over when the "tire tech" couldn't get one to balance...If I hadn't been standing there, I'm sure it would have been OK (for them, NOT for me :)). They "know" I'm serious about them and I've never had an issue.

ps: I just use "regular" tire shops....it isn't rocket surgery...just requires someone who "cares".

Further to add to my thread, is it okay to have my older Pirellis on the front which have about 40% tread left and install the new Mich. pilots on the back? The car is only for street use.

Mixing brands is a "no no" for 911s (dunno about Boxters), but it won't hurt to try imo. Good luck!

I just use the Porsche dealer near me. Like you said, they are more expensive, but they always do a nice job.

Make sure you ask the tire place is they have the rubber feet for the clamps. Nothing worse than seeing the cleat marks on the inside of your wheels

My buddy's tire shop is 100 yards from mine.

So the wife was up in Fresno a couple weeks ago and got a slow leak in her front tire, which was about 4 months old (kuhmo, good tires).

All she could find open on a Sunday was a pep boys. yeah I know.
They said it has a nail in it in the sidewall that couldn't be patched so she needs a new tire, and it cost $260 installed. No choice. I told her to make sure she brought the old tire home.

It has a small nail in it, about 1 1/2" from the edge of the tread.
Very patchable.

The kuhmos cost $700 installed for all 4, but they're 235-65-18

and they are high end tires. Not like the POS chinese made tire they put on the front of a front wheel drive vehicle even thought it didn't match the other front tire.

So of course I fired off some carefully picked words to manny moe and rip-off, no reply.

I told her that next time she will be better off hitchhiking home than to go to pep boys for ANYTHING.

So I just sent them another letter explaining that I had purchased a new battery this morning for $125 and I drove right past a pep boys and pulled into the auto zone to get the battery.
From now on every time I go to a flaps I will let pep boys know that their tire-dork in Fresno cost them another sale.


Friends don't let friends go to pep boys.

I'm with Jim.... We have our own rimclamp..... Been practicing on trailer tires for the next time I have to do 944 tires....

Post on Fresno Yelp. That will do some damage. Be very specific.
