Handheld portable CBs

Anyone have any experience with these? I'm looking to get one for use on the bike when traveling. Anyone know Midland?

I would consider VHF.

Those 5 watt motorolas are amazing. Over!

I've used them. A cousin who has had severe back problems loves to go out in wilderness areas, so I bought him a hand held in case he has problems far away from help. I mounted a CB in my Jeep with a big whip antenna to get the best possible range from the hand held in the steep, heavily forested areas.

We've tested it, and have been satisfied that he could get a hold of me if I get back to the Jeep and he does not show up.

Not sure if we could get the same range between two hand helds.

Radios are dependent on antennas and power. The bigger yer stick and the swing the farther you'll go. Kinda like sex.......

Anyways, VHF tends to have less idiots than CB and you don't get stepped on while transmitting.

VHF units are built better. They are made for the work environment as opposed to the hobby crowd.

I carried a handhelfd CB in my truck for a bit about 15 years ago...Was very unhappy with the range due to low wattage....You can have it if I can put hands on it........

VHF looks interesting. Again...is Midland a reliable brand?

Midland has been around for awhile. I'd rate them a 6.5-7. Middle of the pack for the hobbyist.

may i inject a related CB question

for cross country rides in a car. My cheap Radio Shack sucks

What would be the best built in car CB mfg & model to listen to truckers
any leads would be ok also

I also have a booklet on CB & VHF high end antennas [not sure if it matters]

thx
