Beemer Airheads Tech Day

The Airheads is a group older model BMW riders that I think most of you would take to quickly. They love to have tech days and drink beer. An Airhead thinks nothing of traveling great distances to do these things. And once they arrive they jump in to work on the bikes. Serious work like pulling transmissions to change out clutches and lube the splines. Did two of them yesterday. Furthest rider riding to the tech day yesterday was 165 miles.

Cool! Any R65s show up? I sold a set of handlebars to an airhead newbie in MO. He went to some rally out there....seemed really excited about it all. I've never been to a full on airhead tech day. The local group all has modern bikes, I've been to a few of theirs and it looked similar.

Steve, second picture down is an R65. The Airheads are a different group from the official BMW organization. Actually the opposite of them. Not many modern bikes at an Airheads tech day.

Our local group isn't really affiliated with the BMW MOA either. As far as a I can tell, BMW motorcycle club is a lot different than how PCA runs.

I was a member of the Airheads for a while. There's nobody around my parts, so I let membership lapse. I wasn't too keen on the rides for "Barley Therapy" which I don't think is a good idea (I'm not anti beer, mind you!). The parallels to the 911 forum with the constant grousing about BMW not making anything worthwhile since 1995. Where have I heard that before. :)

I love the simplicity of these bikes. I went for a ride yesterday morning to get some bagels for breakfast. I live on the boarder of the "country". There was a moving sale advertised in an older neighborhood. To me, that equals tools and things I would like. As I rolled up the drive, they had an R75/5 for $2500. I was looking for a /5 when I bought my bike 6 years ago. This one would need a fairing-ectomy and some other less thought out stuff removed and would need to source a Toaster tank, so I let it be. Plus I have no place to keep it. :(

I have hosted a tech day at my house and one guy rode from Las Vegas to come to the event.
