The Aberlour was sublime, the Lagvulin shone. For comparison, I pulled a basic Bourbon (Lexington) and I might have to take a longer trip down Bourbon lane.

Whoa Don! That's really cool. And good on her for wanting to learn. Scotch, to me at least, is more difficult to "get" then wine. I think it has something to do with the entry cost of single malts.

Anyone ever try Monkey Shoulder?

Lived near London a few years ago and was in a pub one evening and wanted to try something different and they gave me a taste of this. Its a blend of some well known spirits (Glenfiddich, Balvinie and Kininvie) so going to make the purists wince a bit. Still a good drink to sip on, especially on a chilly winter evening.

It was available only in the UK for a long time, but I see that its now being imported. Good to hear as I am down to 1/2 a bottle here at the house! :)

Saw that in my local purveyor of fine whisky... How does it compare to your average $50-$75 bottle?

Yes, I picked this up last month on the bargain isle. I like it. Blended vat or blended single malts from three (I think) distilleries. It is definitely one that stays out on the bar. $29 in Naples.

My damn dog gave me squat...

OK-944 06-22-2020 03:28 AM

funny thing about Laphroaig's "square foot" offer - I'd misunderstood this to mean one square foot per coupon, but no coupon limit...and I'd gotten very excited that I'd be able to use my considerable pile of these coupons to acquire a plot large enough to allow me to pitch my tent! Bummer to learn that its only one coupon per person...but I still somehow cannot bring myself to toss all of those coupons!
