Turbos usually decrease the brake specific fuel consumption. You are getting a little too parfy in that last post and are lacking facts.

The government can have my V8 when they can pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Again, thanks for keeping me on track with the conversation. |
Death of the V8?
Heck, I'm not so sure there won't be the death of the V6 (or other 6s). |
I would imagine turbocharging stays but the engine gets smaller.
|
On a less serious note, I'm angry that I haven't gotten my flying car yet. I was at the 1963 World's Fair and they promised us we'd have flying cars. I want my flying car!

When I read this, I was wondering if I was in a time warp.
V8s haven't been the prime mover for most people for a couple of decades. As was pointed out a few posts ago, the average v6 makes more power than most v8 of a few decades back.. My 4.3 L F 150 does the same work my 88 Chev with a 5 L used to do. Aside from the sweet sound of a well tuned V8, I won't miss them. Best Les |

Sure, people can hot rod them to make more power, but for the people who just use cars as an appliance the turbo will be more efficient. |

BTW, has anyone thought about the added cost of maintenance when no one (and possibly even no indy shops) can work on their own cars due to the advanced technology. Then there's the cost of the high tech parts... |
