Neatly refilling a coleman lantern.
seems impossible for me. official coleman funnel? check! big square can-o-fuel? check!
jam funnel in, and glug glug glug..start trickling it in. soon i notice slight weeping from the lantern fill-hole the funnel is jammed into. o-oh..the funnel has some fuel in it..pull funnel, all excess fuel sloshes everywhere..cuss. what am i doing wrong? i like to fill them up to the max for shorter weekends, because i wont need to bring the square can along. is spilling fuel just part of the experience? pulling the funnel occasionally to peek into the dark cavernous tank is futile. white gas is really, CLEAR gas. tips? btw, my vintage coleman lantern is badass!! much brighter than my newer model.

take a "sport top" water bottle and fill that with fuel from the big boxy can, then squirt the fuel into the lantern.

Try holding the funnel up a little so the air can escape from the tank of the lantern.

Make sure you manually adjust the mantles from time to time too.

this funnel..like a clown funnel.
it is supposed to stop filling once the tank is full..but there is nothing you can do about the funnel reservoir. ![]()

Put empty lantern on digital scale.
Carefully fill lantern, note weight when full. Or carefully fill lantern, then pour contents into a measuring cup, note amount for next filling.

All funnels should have a little concave rib along the spout to relieve air. I can't believe someone has not patented that.
Anyway, fill slowly and insert a thin wood strip or dowel in to check the level like you did in your old V-dub when the gauge was broken. |

Oh my gosh.
Just fill it and spill it, the way we always have....

Another question.... Does Coleman fuel go bad like gasoline? I have an old can out in the garage that has been there for awhile.
