Garage Make Over, Who wants to help me :)
 

Finally I started my garage makeover! is going slow but is going, the plan is to make the garage a little more friendly with all the amenities that will allow me to do car detailing jobs on weekends, the plan is as follows

1. Paint floors, currently under way removing all the old paint- I have the paint on the way,industrial grade so Im good on that.

2. New lights- got them on their way much brighter and better lighting.

3. Portable a/c- Got that located

4. Cabinets- Im trying to find something on that dept, so far this are the front runners Car Guy Garage: Five Piece Starfire White Garage Storage I dont want to get into something to complex and I'd like to keep them under 1K, so Modulars are out of the question :rolleyes:

Any suggestions for cabinets?

have you looked at ikea's kitchen cabinets?

what are you using for portable a/c? my garage gets super hot in the summer and the fan only helps so much.

I see DanDudley already posted the Garage Journal link - I was going to recommend you spend some time on that forum. Not knowing specifically what you have in mind for your garage floor "paint" - you need to exercise caution in prepping the current floor. You need to remove all old paint, stains and spots - preferably by grinding or heavily etching the floor. Anything less than an all out effort will likely end up in product failure down the road.

Keep us posted, I'm especially interested in the portable A/C. I have a portable ceramic heater that attaches to a propane bottle that has made winter wrenching so much more pleasant, I need a similar product for the summer.

A few ideas from my recent semi-renovation:

-Sears has pretty good deals on the modular track systems, about 1/3 less than the Gladiator Garage Works products which they also sell.
-I bought Gladiator upper cabinets because they were the best fit for my space. There were Craftsman branded ones that were less money, and Harbor Freight also has upper cabinets that are pretty affordable.
-I bought a pre-made Formica countertop at Menards (Home Depot type store) and used it for a workbench. I found a generic steel drawer kit and used it to install drawers under my countertop. The end result is very practical.
-My garage is about 22x22, I have four 8' florescent light fixtures, each has two bulbs. I would consider the lighting adequate but it could easily use one more fixture.
-I bought pre-finished laminate shelving from the same home improvement store and used it for upper shelves. Affordable and clean looking for shelving.

Here's some of the notes i have gathered for my build. Tons of outlets at 36" from the floor, lamps on walls (to appreciate the great job you did on my truck!), nothing mounted on the floor so you can hose it off, wall mounted fan(s). I have a portable a/c and without the fans its hard to feel it.

Lights, power and air lines on reels. Small closet or enclosure to quiet down the compressor. Cabinets are cool but i might go with open shelving due to flexibility. For budget reasons, i might consider plastic cabinets for lightweight items and metal for the rest.

I will not paint my floors. Planning on sealing it only. Have seen too many epoxy floors peel off.
