Now you should really take it to a track and thrash it. No old car should be in that condition.
Not... Holy Christ, that thing is beautiful. More pictures, please. |
It'll be at least a few days, as I'm moving. My good cams are packed away, too.

Beautiful car Steve, well done.

They don't get much prettier! Well done.
|
time to go thru all the old service receipts and load them in a spreadsheet so you can figure out what was done and when

Took it out for the first time today. You know what- I think I should put a new alternator in!

LOL!
You need to put it back in the garage where it belongs! :) You'll probably have to spend a few more $ to get all these bugs worked out from sitting. Just make sure you have AAA plus membership. G |
I know- what was I thinking? I've put about 46 miles on it so far, so it's costing me about $2/mile to operate. Not bad, huh?
I do have AAA Plus, so they give me 100 miles for free. RMG was 53 miles away, so there it goes. Dan was reachable by cell phone while he was camping and helped me out. Had one bar of signal strength while camping and texted his owner to pull my car into the shop after it arrives around 11pm tonight. Awesome service! A great recommendation from this forum! |
Lol, the downside of a garage queen. They don't like to sit, so I'm glad to see you exercising it.
|
Alternators take a dive on air-cooled 911s that are not garage queens too. It's a common failure.
|
There aren't that many more things that can leave you stranded. Fuel system and a DME. Get a spare relay. There may be some suspension work needed and oil leaks may be more prevalent - both won't leave you stranded.
I'd rather buy a garage queen and bring it back to snuff than a high mileage runner. :) G |
Spare relay sounds like a good idea. I'll be speaking with Dan at RMG Enterprises tomorrow. The operating assumption is alternator, which is $550 for a new one + 2 hours labor. Not a big deal, but I'd like to find out if the charging system was tested during the PPI in Colorado.
During the PPI the engine and transmission were dry as a bone. The compression varied by a total of 4 PSI and the max leakdown was 4.1%. I think it's a very young car mechanically. |
just get it rebuilt
|
My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

Steve, since this isn't your DD, get the Pelican rebuilt and I can put it in for you next time I'm up there, (soon).
|
Dan at RMG said every rebuilt alternator they've put in has failed and the only solid way to fix it is with a new one. I don't mind paying the diff and the car has already been dropped off there.
Appreciate the offer! |
